Although i do really like my DR-Z, I see exactly what you mean, Mikeyboy. Mine goes in the van to the start of the trails, unless I am on my local stuff within 20kms of home. I think you could do a long on / off road trip with a DR-Z, but you would want to change the gearing for each aspect of the trip. A DR650 can be ridden to Morocco, then ridden around Morocco....

i wouldnt say it cant be ridden to morroco far from it
the seat and all that can be helped along
it would need a 15/43 on it ireakon ..but one sprocket change before the atlas and one on the way back would be no big deal
its those middle distance weekend things that would be awkward particulary in tighter trails not many people wat to change sprockets twice in 2 days for instance
