No matter how good the soap smells.
Don't walk out of the restroom sniffing your fingers.

That is so true. Had the same kind of conversation with Tracie the other day actually. If you could go back to 1500, or 1700, or even 1900 - and you tell people what they will be able to do with the technology of 2021 - it would amaze them I'm sure. But then try to describe how any of it really works, or even try to build one (whatever 'it' is), and I think we'd nearly all fail. Knowledge has become very specialised and compartmentalised, leaving so many of us with absolutely no idea about things outside of our own specific subject area.
And what about let's say a smart phone? Imagine you could take one back just 40 years, to 1981. You tell everyone how great it is and then you switch it on. No network ("well you'll have to wait about 30 years for 3G masts to be installed"). Although the specialities required to design and manufacture things are more compartmentalised these days, the things themselves are ever more dependent on wider networks for them to work (internet/satellite network/mobile phone masts, electricity grid etc etc). Add to all that the in-built redundancy of modern technology (eg gadgets that run slower and slower until they're useless) and you have a society that really can only explain and live with its own technology 'in the moment'.
What a contrast to the Wright brothers, for instance, who built the first entire aeroplane on their own - using lots of imagination, creativity, one small workshop plus trial and error - then had the guts to pilot it themselves on its first voyage!

And all of this technology becomes predominantly reliant on two microchip producing factories, then one burns down and the other is coping with a pandemic. Now lots of the western worlds production is suffering from chip supply shortages, from car production to medical equipment.
We are so reliant on our technology even bikes are becoming very difficult to self maintain.
