hi guys..

just came across this post..dont know how I missed it

On my Ta650 200kg I`ve run the front at 15psi in the mud [no change in grip from 30psi] as the tyre side walls are so hard....so now use the pirelle mt21 rallycross [excellent]

on the rear I have the k60 scout 140 profile with the centre band [cut out] as on the grass it slips like a good one...now it just grips [run at 28-18psi no real difference] again due to hard tyre wall..

Have run the rear with a puncture on hard ground and upto 25mph it was fine if a little wobbly but never came off rim :)

So for a big bike look for the occasional dry gravel/mud track fine but in the wet grass with center rear band [ forget it].

when I`ve used my [3] partly worn rears down I`ll be using either Mitas E09 or for radical trails the army special or even the mitas co2 but they will be fun on the raod for sure but clear the mud well on trails.

As Minky says always a compramise :cheer: these bikes arent xr400`s etc so dont kid your selfs, but a HP2 bmw on full knobblys will be brill.

Also ran the 130 profile but lasted well ...half what a 140 will do [old profile] but gripped well which is why i removed the center on the 140 profile.

 Not sure I'd be doing that. You are destroying the integrity of the tyre, massive no no, and if you had a spill I doubt your insurance company would pay out if they found out that had been done. Also if the Police got involved and the spill was your fault and someone else got injured or even killed, you risk prosecution due to the tyre mod. It's a no from me.

There has been posts on ADV about notching the centre band, I am reluctant to do that and as the riding I do is 95% road and the rolling band gives a reasonably smooth ride.

Mornin dooods!

How's this for the theoretical rantings of a mad man.

Is it possible in theory, that the off road tyres (with banding) are designed to be run at lower pressures off road, i.e. creating a squash pattern / putting more of the tread pattern of either side of said band in contact with the dirty stuff?

Not mad at all. I agree. As someone else said though, why heidnenau don't give more details on their sites is a head scratching thing.

A mate of mine has a K60 Scout on the rear of his KTM 950SE. He span it on the rim and ripped the valve out of the inner tube. He reckons the bead rubber is not the best.
Maybe 100hp is too much for it to take?

Having said that I've not heard anything else bad about it and will be purchasing one soon to try along with a Mitas E10 front for my 950 Adventure.... Fingers crossed

That baffles me to be honest. I'm not shy on the throttle plus I weigh 100kg and the tiger has just shy of 100 BHP, no problems at all. Maybe the tube wasn't put in right.

Me too. Like I said I've not heard of this before and I've been doing LOTS of research into tyre choice. Maybe it's a one off.

Not wishing to derail but why did you go for an E10 front as opposed to say, an M21 or E09 or a tkc80?

Had a long, hard think about the MT21 and E09 but I have to be honest that I mostly ride road not trail and thought they were too aggressive for that. Granted they'd be better in the mud.
Was a close call and there was nothing in it, even price wise, between the TKC and E10. Read a few reports of dented rims with the TKC due soft tyre walls but acknowledge they are a good compromise. Opted to try the E10 on that basis
