Re:Does anyone else struggle with corners?
lots of things can contribute to being uncomfy when cornering
...
go back to the basics
osm psl
approaching a bend try and look over walls and hedges looking at the inside of the bend ..try and learn to use tree lines tops of lamposts to assess the bend as you travel down the road
as you get nearer use that little sysem ..
observation mirrors before shedding speed
signal the only one you consider is a brake light
usually not needed
manuover
position you naturally move over to the left
for a right hand bend ..say
dont forget consider the camber on the road
state of the road surface /whats on it
weather conditions
speed
/gear if your shedding meaningful
road speed use your brakes front
before rear bring your gears down at the
same time
blipping the throttle between gears is a
good skill to learn but dont use it when
riding faster unless you can use the brakes
at the same time [if u understand this practice]if not get some help from somone
never try and set your speed with the
gears when riding fast
there should be a pause all brakes gently
realeased correct gear
set the throttle steady
dont roll off fully cos a soon re apply it
you bike will want to run wider
the faster you go the worse it gets
your brain will go into auto correct mode ..more inputs to bike to hit the line youve chosen
in laymans terms huu yuuuuk
so steady throttle
look
the last bit sounds very obovious
but i guarantee you if your still trying to deal with postion speed or gear as you go into the corner your ability to look [in the right place ] will diminish greatly
counter steering is fine and dandy your using it already but you may not know it
dont worry about it get the basics right as above
if you look in the wrong place a t 60mph i/e kerb ,chevron board whatever ...you will go there ...at 85 feet per second your eyes are imperitive get all the above done
and you will be able to look properly
concentrate on the tip in point right rand bend ..
watch the white lines in the centre and always focus on the furthest point of the bend your looking for the exit
you may flick your eys to moniter the road surface ..but focus through the bend ..
you will find as soon as the lines appear to move further away in your vision the right hand kerb will start appear in your view this should be your tip in point
hope u understand this
just talk to yourself at normal pace .. position ... speed .... gear ... set throttle ..in i go
if your little commentry becomes hurried your too fast in cramming the sytem [ it should be like having a cup of coffee in a cafe if you see what i mean ]
it will be apparant cos u will not want to hold a steady throttle and want to /will shut it
this should apply at 40mph or 140 mph if you cant talk throught it at a steady pace things are happening to fast for u...as they are for me and near every other mortal soul
sorry to be so long but its a big subject
i hope it helps
you have your licence make some enquiries in your area get a good instructor ..hire him to give you what you need ..
ask him to put you on pillion for 20 mins and get an onboard commentry of the above radioed up
if he wont do it move on to somone who will
u will learn a lot from that and find it easier to pick up when you get stuck in
good luck
