I'm all for frequent oil changes but that's a bit soon. My 450 EXC used to go 500-600+ miles on an oil change and the oil was coming out like it went in, if I was doing an enduro or hare n hounds then I'd change it after the event but that's just because your thrashing it, road use barely puts any strain on the motor other than long high speed runs.

I thought it was a bit ott meself I looked at a few forums and a lot where saying 10 hours that's around 300 mile was my first bike and didn't want to cause me problems that I could afford to fix haha.

DR650 gets my vote every time. Took a while to find but with the help of a few..... additions it is all day comfortable. Using a Sergeant seat and sheepskin. The Sheepskin is the best addition I have made, and unashamedly I have made a few. Second best was a new tube........

Like Hen's Teeth! Although Stafford Motorcycles have one in at the moment. It belonged to The Boss of the business. Few nice tweaks.

I went and had a look at it a fortnight ago but the with the usual Staffs M'Cycles pricing and no negotiation of a figure offered, I had a bounce and went away to look further! :(

I would be looking for a DRZ400/CCM404DS or a DR650/CCM644DS which has been set up for longer distance riding ie a bit of wind protection and a comfy seat. They are well established bikes with known problems and there are numerous internet forums telling you how to fix them. Of course for a 'sorted' bike you will pay more than a standard bike but then you will get more for it when you sell it on so cost of ownership will be the same.

The CCM450 of course is a well sorted bike if you can afford to spend relatively 'big' money but I would wait a while to see how reliable the second/third hand bikes prove to be because this is an unknown concern if buying a 'well used' bike.

The other alternative is to swap from the XT660Z to a XT660R which is less top heavy to push around and also improve access to your shed (thumbs)

It's a lot lighter full stop. The Tenere is (allegedly) 206kg wet, the 660R 181kg. Take off the ridiculous exhaust and I think you can drop another 8kg by using the metal mule 2 into 1. So over 30kg weight saving; more than a bag of spuds!

yeah, not 8kg but still a lot. Why they put so heavy cans is beyond me.

Looked at the xt660r think I might get a xr650r but hard to come buy my tenere goes off to Ireland tomorrow so will have the funds then it's just a waiting game.
