Wear a football shirt or moto-cross style shirt over you armour, then get a cheap waterproof top from JJb or Sports Direct. This will serve you if it gets cold or if it rains. Make sure you try it on over your armour. Also take a cargo net for storing it and your spare gloves. Good luck and enjoy it .

Got the jackets - but MotoX tops only seem to go up to 48" every where I have looked - don't people realise fat b'stards ride bikes too !

Posh me - got my Kriega waist pack for Gloves and my 10 quid special from Decathlon ( the factory seconds one I had to dig deep in the bargin bucket for at the HuBB last year :) )

Time to look for a rugby top :)

I doubt the instructors will laugh to be fair - I found them to be very reasonable and not at all judgemental. The typical attendee is from a road bike background and not a Moto-cross god - I saw all sorts of kit including leathers (the chap in a ROSPA orange bib which he insisted on wearing all day got a snigger from me but not a raised eyebrow from the staff)

Turn up in your comfiest kit - layers are good you will soon shed them, and expect it to get sweaty dirty and 'lived in'. Any concerns give them a ring as has been mentioned they are very accommodating - they want you to have the best time and learn not worry about rules and regs - as long as you are safe all good.

I used a very old HG jacket and pants, some ancient Alpinestars crosser style boots, a Aria Tour X hat and some light gloves (18 years of GS riding and trying look the part ~ badly. Wear whatever armour you feel comfy in but I would recommend a crosser style helmet with googles - full face helmets get very hot and steamy, and visors become useless - you are working hard at times but not moving quickly so not a lot of a it gets in.

Maybe take some aspirin or paracetamol you find you have some aches in unlikely places on day 2, and drinks lots of water - it is almost summer?

But most of all take a good attitude, learn be amazed and enjoy - it's proper fun.

I am easily affected by uncomfortable kit for some reason. Hence the queries. if I feel comfortable I enjoy riding, anything doesn't fit and I get tired quicker, lose concentration and to put it bluntly just become arsey.

I was going to wear my Halverssons kit done me well on adventures all over the place over the past four years , well comfy and worn in, BUT removing the amour and spending days to get it to sit properly again has put me off, and besides I will need it again on Tuesday morning to ride to work. I doubt anyone in the office will appreciate the smell of two days of me sweating into the muddy mess under the desk :)

After using some of the gear today , I can honestly say for bargain kit some of it is as good as more expensive gear I have owned... apart from the lid... comfy and now fits really well but, feck me is it LOUD!!! The gloves are superb though, may use them for some hot weather touring later this year.

Just the top layer now... the roost guard stops any of my jackets fitting with another layer anyway so a MX top if I can get one big enough will be ideal. The breathable Acerbis jacket with vents would be the best option if I can track one down... really need to shed some pounds though , starting to feel freakishly overweight not being able to get kit off the shelf anymore :(
