The only stoker I ever rode off the tarmac was a DT100 one of the great little forgotten bikes of the 70's , but I found the Beemer easy to take on the rough stuff as all my other bikes were big singles. I like that controllable torque and using engine braking when carrying luggage on the rough stuff ... it's a different riding style completely.

Em, you need to stop pushing folks buttons, actually, I've owned both, ridden many bikes, but obviously you appear to know better than I do, so you'll know all that already. From your experience in strokers you'd be better trying an actual motocross bike for offroad, a DT road bike's not quite the same!

I don't immediately like every bike that comes into existence and over the years have learnt to take in each one on release with a pinch of salt. I wll NOT be told what bike to like by the media or anyone else and I will NOT tell anyone else what bike to like.

I will however debate the merits of any bike in a none judgemental way.

Jim personally I hope you change your mind as for this forum to thrive we need a mix of experience.

Well, i've enjoyed the "lively" debate on this thread, everyones input, positive or negative, has been interesting and made for good reading and food for thought. :whistle:

The only way to conclude it is to all ride one then retire to the pub to discuss. Probably not possible so we'll have to wait for new owners to review on here.

I think all the debates surrounding the new Triumphs are a direct result of there spy shot marketing. That created hype witch builds expectations. So its inevitable that people are going to have opposing feelings about it.

I'm one that is sceptical about it, if it truly is as good as they are making out they wouldn't need to hype it up so much. :whistle:

And BMW don't hype their bikes? They show them splashing through fords and across rough terrain. Then, when an owner comes in with something broken, BMW tell them to "Eff Off" because it's not a dirt bike. I think any manufacturer hypes a new model. e.g. look at Kawasaki and their new ZX10RRRRRR.

Triumph claim that their styling was completed before the F800GS was launched so it's a coincidence that they look similar. Or they had a good spy in the BMW camp.

Every company hypes, but there drip feed hype caused a lot of speculation and anticipation.
Which in turn caused disappointment.

I know they say they never copied the BMW 800, but they did copy the GS1200 and Id say that's a fact.

Note the GS in the clay modelling room at Triumph, I bet that's a coincidence as well. :laugh:
