Chilterns Muddy Ride Out
Re: Chilterns Muddy Ride Out
Hi folks.
Seems like we've lost a few posts in the tidy up! Just like my tax return...
Some more info on the "muddy" ride:
The lanes we have round here are well suited to big bikes, and many are passable on road tyres. There isn't much fun for little, specialised off road bikes.
I say that for 2 reasons, 1. The lanes themselves are easy, even the mud doesn't get very deep (Northampton mud pits for that!) and 2. There is often very little visibility ahead on most of the lanes, so speeds need to be kept down, often well below the TRF guidelines.
I've worked hard over the years to develop a good image and relationship with other local users, and as it's now my livelyhood I'd appreciate that not being spoilt.
The plan is to have 2 rides, at the moment one for more experienced riders and one for those who consider themselves less experienced.
I'd also like to run a 'just for fun' self-scored trial for those who want.
Groups should then by 4/5 bikes, which the trails can cope with.
The runs are ideally suited to adventure styled bikes, we would expect to cover up to 150 miles during the day. There are some different 'zones' locally, with some road miles to link them together, possibly even a bit of M1 if time is running short.
There will be mud, though. And sand, hills, water, and very short ruts.
If there's interest we could ride on the Friday and the Saturday.
Sunday morning could be a good chance for a short session for the road riders to get their wheels dirty, suitable for road tyres. (And luggage if you're brave!)
I need to check other threads to find the list of who's wanting trails, but we could just sort it out on the day? Planning to start Saturday about 9.30, probably finish by 4.00 ish.
Evening dark lanes Saturday night? Always fun...
Please let me know, or catch me there if there's any questions.
Cheers,
Chris.
Oh, and I'll be riding the Vara, on Scorpion Rally tyres, with the normal low front mudguard and no bash plate if that tempts anyone's choice!

Re: Chilterns Muddy Ride Out
Hi there. Would you consider it a suitable ride for a DL1000 on road tyres with a complete novice on board. If so please swap me from road to mud unless there is the option to do one on each day.
I work to live. I live to ride. I ride to work, Ever felt like your going in circles.

Re: Chilterns Muddy Ride Out
Hi there - I'm pretty in-experienced riding off-road and have an R1150GS with Mitas E10's fitted. Off to Iceland in July so looking to get as much experience under my belt beforehand as possible.
Cheers,
Fin.

Cheers Domsday,
I'm already booked to do some courses with Patsy Quick, so I'll see how that goes and take it from there.

Re: Chilterns Muddy Ride Out
I wasn't going to be able to make this which was a shame as it's on my doorstep.
But now I can :woohoo:
I'm up for some dirty riding and happy to lead a group if needed as I know the lanes quite well (OK very well, I've been green laning in the area for the last 25 years (often on totally unsuitable bikes/tyres) and I'm the Herts and Beds rep for the Green Lane Association (GLASS) and no that doesn't mean I'll be in the 4x4!
