A question for people with no off the road parking

Aren't there any grated gully covers you could lock it to?

Can't you lock it to a lamp post or to your wall?
Another possibility, get a second, non running, heavy bike, cover it, accidentally loose the number plate and lock your real bike to this anchor/bike.

Tracker to deter the serious thieves and a Thatcham rated disc lock and a cover (I put the disc lock through the cover to secure it to the bike as well) to deter yobs and opportunists.

I have the council garage option mentioned above, costs me £50/month, and can be a little bolt hole to escape to every now and then - although try not to advertise your wares.

Of course when I asked for one, they had none available and waiting list......la de da......but really they did have some but were just a little lazy with them (although you do have to be a little flexible with location). Unfortunately (I expect because they have no money) many they let just fall into disrepair.

Things to consider with this option though is no power (tools and light); and insurance - off site and in the middle of council estate ups the premium.

I have to park my bike on the Rd, I use a bike Cover Oxford Stormex & a lock & Chain around the rear wheel, & a Disk lock on the front, when I get home if i'm lucky, I chain the bike to the lamp post, if not I don't.

What I remember being told is that if the bike is in plain site, with a cover over it, people ignore it, it is a psychological thing.

BTW my insurance company where ok about it & so long as I used there approved Chain,lock & disk lock they where ok it did't affect my insurance.

Hmm…I wouldn’t be too happy with leaving it exposed, no matter how many locks where on it. What I would suggest is going to your local council or other wise (ask at your local Town Hall too) and seeing about putting your name on some sort of council garage list. Just note; that our council garages were took over by a "private" firm and no longer in the councils hands.

I had one for years, and was over a mile from the house!! and you don’t have to have to live in a council house either, just pay VAT, to get one.

I rent a council garage, and have been for years (could have bought it for the money I've spent on rent) but it's about 45 miles away. I've got loads of crap in it, so might get rid as the cost is about £46 a month.

Id use a cover over the bike as out of sight out of mind. a lock on each wheel disc or chain and a rape alarm around the cover and bike hidden under bike so if someone takes it off theyl break the connection and youll hear the alarm. followed by a sign on a wall near the area that the area is covered by cctv.

I insure and cover my bike then forget about it, if a thief wants it they will have it so just don't spend your life fretting over it.

When I was younger I lived in an area that was really bad for bike theft.
I would lock my bike in a shed with 2 chains round the bike a lock on the shed then a caravan with a wheel clamp on in front of the shed door. It would take me about 30mins to get my bike out with the keys, but it never stopped them nicking it. hmy:

Theres also the lock and store option if there is one near you. I used one for about 10 years as a workshop and excess bike store, with leasure battery and 12v lights it was like my version of an allotment :side:

When I stopped renting it was about £80 a month (5 years ago) but if you could find someone local with a spare bit of yard you can usually get a box sited for half the cost.
