My Suzuki runs a 190/50 17 rear tyre and I've been using Michelin Pilot Power 2CT's on the front and back but have only managed about 2,300 miles before the rear is looking like it's getting towards the end of it's life. I reckon it will need changing in 500 miles, so that's only 2,800 miles of tyre life  . I'm not complaining but I'm no Valentino Rossi also, and the 2CT is a dual compound sports tyre so maybe my expectations on mileage were a bit high (or my love of warp speed moments has fubared it  ).

Anyway, I might switch to Michelin Pilot Road 4's...which is more of a sport touring tyre...or maybe put one of those on the rear and keep the Pilot Power 2CT on the front as it's got plenty of life left in it...but I don't want to upset the bike by running different tyres at each end... :?

'a first world problem' as my mate says...
I used to run a sporty front tyre with a sports touring rear as my norm when I was commuting and it worked great for me.

TBH a modern sports-touring tyre is where a sports tyre of 5-10 years ago would have been in terms of outright performance, but will last far longer, and also deliver a more consistent performance over that life.

none of which helps me in choosing new tyres for the ole nine-fiddy...I'm feeling inclined to go for more of the same with the Mitas.

Or a second set of wheels? I can see you getting less use out of the 950 if it has more road orientated tyres but knocking the edges off a replacement set of what you have by sitting on the m/way is also an issue.

Realistically, the ES700 is going to be my go-to bike for long-haul trail-riding adventures now.

I'm leaning more and more towards these. Some good reviews by consumers, and also in this magazine. Excellent on the road and can cope with firm dirt tracks. 10,000 mile life is apparently possible (sobering thought...these could be the last tyres I buy for the 950).
But the killer is the price...ContiMichDunStonerellis are about £150 just for the rear. The Mitas are £200 to do both ends, get good reviews on performance and seem to outlast the premium makes on mileage.
I'll let you know how I get on.

I Now have them on the Xt1200 and on the other half`s f700gs cant fault the at all, I was previously running Anakee 3s on the xt and the Terraforce R are just as good for a lot less cost.
The Mitas importer is down your way somewhere and you can buy direct from them.

There's an Australian guy on the ADVRider forum who got 10,000 miles with a pair on an XT1200. Given the harsher conditions he's operating the bike in, I think they should get that here in the UK.
Makes the cost a bit more bearable. I see some 'superior' competitors are shot after half that.
