If it's not a 'keeper' then it's probably best to go no further than giving it a really good clean then sell it. Once you start trying to restore them the costs escalate very rapidly.
I was over at Mikeyboys workshop yesterday with a box of Ducati engine parts and left there needing to order a new piston & rings plus we'd decided that having a new & unused conrod & crank pin was pointless unless you use them.

You can't remember your mid 30's?Redmurty wrote:34 years old can't remember that far back, is this the "Norway" bike ?Harper wrote:I've never really been a two-stroke fan though, I had a couple of TDR 250s, which were fantastic, but it's not me.Redmurty wrote:that should bring back some youthful hormones til you kill ya self

Had a "blinkin 'eck" moment when I realised it was 34 years old!

No, it won't be polluting that lovely clean Norway air, although I think Paul has us going over to the Russian border, near to the very industrial town of Nikel, where everything for miles around is dead and chimneys belch blue smoke skyward 24/7, very touristy...

My thoughts exactly, I've not even fetched it home yet, but I've been looking at bits on the interweb and getting carried away.AndyB wrote:If it's not a 'keeper' then it's probably best to go no further than giving it a really good clean then sell it. It's going to get a strip down, clean, touch up restoration and we'll see where we are at with it then.
I've already been offered a £500 profit on it, but it's not about selling it, it's a bit of a project, then sell it...

Re: RD 350 LC
I think this one needs to stay bog standard, I'm even thinking of fitting Avon Deathmasters for that authentic early eighties vibe...
Re: RD 350 LC
or try Dunlop ditchfinders for the "authentic" handling experience.i had one in the mid eighties with all the goodies on it and stan stephens tuned, fastest LC around these parts (didn"t everyone make that claim?)anyway, after riding modern stuff for a few years I was given a go on one about six years ago, that ride only served to kill the rose tinted memories...personally I"d take the 500 quid quick profit and let someone else sink his soul into it.they are worth good money but if you payed good money for it then after spending thousands of pounds and man hours on it then you probably won"t clear much more than that in "real" monetary profit
Re: RD 350 LC
It's different if it's a bike you actually want and intend keeping it because at least you know you'll never lose money on it and you can just keep dragging it out for a 40 mile ride with a nice lunch along the way then tuck it away in the garage when you get home.
My wife has a blue and white 350LC that she's owned for about 6 years and has probably only done 300 miles on for various reasons but it's the bike she wanted when she was 18 and she now owns it so it's going nowhere. It was only a month or so ago that she finally decided to get the cracks in the seat unit repaired and have the whole lot resprayed to make it look nice because it had rust spots and scratches all over the place so it should look really good when it returns.
I nearly bought a Brazilian made 350 YPVS a while ago but decided it was too much of a mess to bother with and the bloke wanted the sort of money you'd pay for an older one in better condition.

agree totally,if its what you want then have at it.OP was/is undecided which is why I offered up my opinion.have to add that I'm not into older bikes or restorations so I'm probably polar opposite to your good self (thumbs)AndyB wrote:It's different if it's a bike you actually want and intend keeping it because at least you know you'll never lose money on it and you can just keep dragging it out for a 40 mile ride with a nice lunch along the way then tuck it away in the garage when you get home.
