Rubber band between the throttle body and the brake master cylinder etc.

Depending on how tight it is determines the 'friction'. I use it loose which means after a few minutes it naturally vibrates to closed which suits me, but its enough for me to take my right hand off and stretch the fingers etc while keeping up with the traffic flow.

didnt work for me but then again I suffered from blood flow problems via the wrist to the hand..basically gave me pins and neddles and then a dead hand after only 1 hour..

I found adjusting the end bar clamp had the desiered effect..locked the throttle slightly..

now have bad "tennis elbow" in left arm..getting old sucks :woohoo: doctor says injections..sod that.

I've had the injections for tennis elbow...my god they hurt and what the doc won't tell you is that your arm will kill for a week..but then it will be fine for years.

Re homemade throttle controls from elastic bands and zip tyes.
My solution to the problem involves things that can be readily sourced around the home or workshop.
Drill, 6inch nail, and a piece of string.
#1 Take the bike out for a ride noting where you want the throttle to stay.
#2 Return home, then tie the string securly around the nail (a good clove hitch is recommended for it's simplicity and security)
#3 Now with the engine off get a friend, partner, significant other, misstress, or rent boy to open the throttle to the position that you decided upon in #1 above.
#4 Now take the drill and drill through the throttle and handlebar leaving you with a hole straight through.
#5 Put nail into hole (this part is critical) make sure that this is NOT a tight fit as you do not want it getting stuck in a tight hole.
#6 The test ride; when you have reached the pre determined cruising speed, repeat #3 above, then put the string into your mouth.
This will work as both a safety device and an anti swearing at other road user device.
In the former to revert back to normal throttle useage you just need to pull your head violently up and back, and the string in your mouth will remove the nail.
In the latter you will not be able to talk, or utter expletives with a mouth full of string; which also has the added bonus of making you appear saintly to other road users.
I did experiment with a loop of string from the nail which was then wrapped around my neck, however during the first test ride I was taken out by a car in which the driver was using hand signals which got caught in the loop as I was passing, causing me to fall off the back.
A shorter loop just made me look a bit weird, as my head was pulled ontop of the master cylinder, thus the hold in mouth version or MK III as I like to call it above.

Of course if you aren't technically inclined a Scottoiler cramp buster does the job very well and isn't expensive.

PS Please excuse the poor punctuation as this is written under the use of hard pain killing drugs from my hospital bed, following another little experiment pertaining to a home made heated garment; whereby I had misjudged the flash point of a petrol soaked jacket.

this system is obviously flawed as it is restricted to only one set speed and before someone mentions drilling multiple holes allowing a variety of throttle settings, this would weaken the bar to such an extent it would be dangerous.But many thanks for such an ingenious idea Mark.

on my transalp of old I just tightened the two scews that held the throttle body together where the cable went into..had the effect of making the twist grip harder to turn..

found this out by mistake as had been lubing the cables and over tightened the screws..lol

you could rotate the throttle to whatever position you wanted and let go and it just stayed there..to shut throtle just close by hand..didnt need much force.

free and worth a go.. (thumbs)

i`m trying exercises first for the tennis elbow and now drive auto gearbox trucks so no more up and down the 12 speed box :woohoo: ..London was a real bitch.

Some good ideas here.
I use a Kaoko one which I got via touratech. Its a throttle lock rather than cruise control just replaces the bar end weight.
I think they are bike specific though so you would need to check it fits your bike.
