It should at least be free to those that subscribe to the mag?

I've not realy had any issues either on my mobile or pc, maybe its slow to upload photos but that is about it.

I can just about stomach £12 a year for the GS forum adverts as there are some great deals to be had and both GS's I have had have come from there. However regards this forum it would totally go against ABR's whole ethos of cheap rallies and access for all etc. I feel it would certainly put new members of browsing and then getting involved

ADVRider and the HUBB are much bigger (in terms of population) than this forum and neither of those seem to have any issues either on the web or when using the Tapatalk application.

As well as advertising on this forum, it is also funded by the magazine of the same name so it should be a "richer" forum, i.e. able to survive without the need for subscriptions.

Personally, I wouldn't want to pay for something that I have been using for three years without any fees. I don't subscribe to the magazine, however, I do get a copy every month through work (as I work in the motorcycle industry). If I didn't get my free copy of the magazine, I wouldn't want to be tied into subscribing for it just to get free access to the forum: I would want to buy it from WH Smiths as and when I want.

Other forums seem to manage to run perfectly well without charging and those that do are offering something extra so what would everyone expect to get?

I work on the basis that you don't get anything for nothing and that includes extracting cash out of me.

Of course

Mag Subscribers could have full access rights

Maybe non payers, couldn't PM others or not be able to view the For Sale ads

3 Options....

a) Pay up to the Mag subscription and get the full monty, mag and Forum

b) A paid up Forum member you can have full Forum access (say £10 per year)

c) Free members get access, except For Sale ads and Private Messaging (PM's)

Seems a fair system for all and not the Mag is subbing the Forum free gratis - all the time

I wouldn`t pay, Iv`e had bad experiences with other forums-
One car specific forum would`nt cancel the recurring annual paypal subscription and sneakily skimmed cash of ex-members.
Another forum tries to make you feel guilty for not paying subs. by having having privileges. I appreciate it costs money to run a forum but 5000 members paying £10 each sounds like a good salary to me.

Indeed...£1000 per day is the norm to purchase support off the shelf.

The words IT and cheap do not exist happily together.

As Mike said IT support costs £1000/day

Why does everyone expect something for nowt

Surely £10/year to support a vibrant forum like this is not out of the way for us - about 3 pints of beer, which most would happily cough up for, at an ABR Rally

Can't believe this Forum is the home of the penny pincher
