Would love to take all the credit for this work al. But it was my dad who had it forwarded to him by his mate Richard, who posted the moden day town photos in the article.

I put it on the forum to share because i new it would be appreciated by like minded adventure types.

Brilliant thank you for sharing this with us.

I wonder what sort of reception they would have received in Germany in the 1950's. Was the war ever talked about when you met a stranger, or did one pretend it never happened.

Fantasitc photos and information. It humbles me to think how much kit/bike we think we need for our trips abroad.

Thanks for sharing :)

Seen it before on other forums - but never tire of looking at the fantastic photos - & £7.00 odd on fuel for a 2000 mile trip - those were the days my friend B)

Great pictures and write up, my dad often reminds me when I visit and I have all my bike kit on that he often went from Yorkshire to Dorset often in January (1956 approx) on his Triumph 650 twin wearing layers and a set of overall from an army tank crew, apparently they were thicker :) Thinks I'm a big girls blouse, I showed him the pictures of the Ullapool weather the other day, now I'm just soft :(

"heff you effer vizzited germany before?"
"err......"

forget traction control, ABS, fuel light, trip computer, why dont bikes have front wheel stands anymore?

and how much would it cost to fly to france these days? and you'll be 4hrs having your shampoo bottles searched, no 20min trips now!
