All they are going to achieve is bankruptcy at this rate. There's no reason why they can't (and I'm sure they probably do) state a policy that only OEM parts will be replaced in the event of a claim. Simples.

Its only a guess, but maybe they are just trying to cover their own arses. If ypu as an owner add £5.ks worth of extras that are not listed as extras on the insurance, would you expect them to cover the costs of any add ons if your bike got nicked or wrecked.

The insurance underwriters are accountants not bikers. I amsume Bennetts managment are stong enough to change underwriters and companies, should this little faux pas go on any longer.

Personally, if one has a new/second had bike with no accessories and then they are added later, and one dose not inform the Insurance Co. then it should be down to common sense that they, the accessories, are not insured, even if part of the bike. Informing the Insurance Co. of any extras, would, I think, be down to the owner and a handful of common sense.

Im not insured with Bennetts luckily but how do they stand on security devices.
If you have an Alarm, an Abus U Lock, a Disc Lock and Smartwater or Alphadot are you over the limit even though they have given you a discount for the above??

Ive counted up to 15 mods on my GS but I would consider mine standard compared to some of the hardcore farklers bikes on here.

Seem to be several threads in one here....

Accessories are not Modifications...(Unless you are Bennetts)....

In the main, Modifications are not to the Frame or Engine anyway....

There is a vast difference between: Not having the Accessories insured and

Not having insurance due to having accessories....

I've a good contact in Bennetts PR department I'll give him a call next week and see what he has to say.
Hi Alun...here is a quote from Bennetts on their Facebook page:
Thank you for your patience. We've updated our modification process and can now cater for more than 3 mods via our call centre. Due to industry confusion regarding modifications, accessories and safety features, we will be providing clarity for Bennetts customers on our website this afternoon. As always, if you have any questions, please email us at [email protected]

They may say that, however, go to their site and you still only get 3 spaces for modifications:

Yeah, had a look too, and it hasn’t, yet, been, as they say they will, ironically, modified

Still total rubbish...

Quote: "Some will affect the handling, performance or value of your bike. Bikers must tell us about these so that if your bike is stolen or damaged, your valuable modifications will be repaired/replaced and if you are involved in an accident in which a modification was deemed to be a contributing factor, despite this, you can be confident you are completely covered."

Yeah like tell them every time you put yer panier's or a tank bag on or off or replace a nut or bolt or put an extra sticker on...

They are missing the point completely.....

Do I hear the sound of an insurance company laying off staff?

Bennetts policy cancelled 10 mins ago.

I have a headache from my latest conversation with them and really can't be bothered to post the update right now.

Jeez my last 20 mins on the phone was harder than my actual days work today.

I need to lie down....
