Drawing on and Embedding a Map - technical help please

Post by Barcelona Pat »

Hi all. I´d like to put together a map of the Americas on which I could plot my planned route next year, and then publish it on my blog. I´d also then like to be able to draw my actual route on the same map (in a different colour) and update it from time to time as a record of the trip. Any ideas all you clever IT types? Any help or signposting received with mucho thanks. :)

Googlemaps should enable you to do that with a little bit of fiddling.

I created this map at;

http://www.travellerspoint.com/travel-maps.cfm

But there must be better sites.

Googlemap guide here:

You can drop different icons e.g. campsites, ship ports, sightseeing places.

You can also draw lines on the map.

Try using Google Earth... and create a kml file which can be put up on a website to open... Actually I'll get back to you on this one as I am looking at a couple of ways of doing this myself.

I treid googlr maps 30 times prior to my us tripand every time without fail, it froze my lap top drove me crazy.
I used a pay as you go system that charges about $12 for 30 way points, but never got a great result.
I think the best way for a web map is using Photoshop, But this is harder.

I still want to do an 'actual route map/ but havn.t found a great alternative.

Hi Pat

Don't know if you have seen these before , http://www.findmespot.eu/en/index.php

If I was doing your awesome trip then I would seriously consider one , also gives you mapping of your travels . At a cost .

Just a thought .

Cheers Bud

Cheers all - plenty to look at when I get home. Keep it coming!

Edit: I did this on Google Earth:

and I have the route tracked on a KMZ file.
