I saw this link saying that Spain have now banned open face helmets.
Anyone know if this is correct?

Re: Anyone know about new Spanish law banning open face helmets?
I read a FB repot a few days ago saying they were banned or about to come in?
But chat chatgpt says the law is not yet in , just proposed, but some regions may have draft legislation.. maybe trials.
That's clear, lol.
I would never advise anyone to wear an open face helmet. I came off downhill ob gravel once .. sliding face down. I was only saved .. as my visor had slipped down over my chin.

Yeh, very mixed reports…
Always use an open face, in fact over the past 5 years I think I only used my closed face helmet once.
I guess it’s like gloves, jackets, airbags, boots… the safest thing is to have the full compliment even in hot weather.

Re: Anyone know about new Spanish law banning open face helmets?
There were no full face helmets when I started riding back in 1971 but I quickly bought the first Centurion full face when it came out about a year later.
when I started doing the horse trial score card collecting back in 2010, I bought a trials helmet just for the event, partly as being potentially less weird for the horse but also the hot weather and slow speeds can be crippling, even in an adventure helmet.
A few years ago, we had an event only five miles away so I used the open face to get there…..it was really scary so quickly an abandoned policy. I felt so exposed and the dust and muck thrown up by vehicles in front was grotty.
A few years later, When my bag fell off the rack, unknown to me, and someone drove over the trials helmet that was inside it (how do you manage that in anything other than a huge SUV?) - we found it slung in the verge an hour later.
I then bought a Nolan N70 with removable chinguard and that has become my go-to lid. Lovely and airy, albeit a tad noisy, I am even using now, in the dead of winter. OK, not great for silly speeds but, for me now, 70 max is just fine…if you can find anywhere in the SE to go that speed for more than a minute.
I am now finding full face road lids too overwhelming but adventure helmets, with the peak removed, give a good balance IMHO. plenty out there that don’t make you look like an mx hero or Dakar refugee.

2022 Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro sadly gone due to ill health.
Now on a 2025 Triumph Scrambler 400X but may be fitter next year.

Re: Anyone know about new Spanish law banning open face helmets?
I've done that with my adv helmet. The peak snags on oversailing branches anyway, or feels like.
You get more air in that way. as chin piece is further away.
Mine is a bit heavier though. I just use a cheap LS2 helmet for road riding.
Hope you can sort u knees out.
Last week I gave my ex biker neighbour a dressing down about him on crutches, with bad hips and knees.
He went to the doc the say day. same hour ih fact.
I'll have to check how its going.

Re: Anyone know about new Spanish law banning open face helmets?
Apparently it's not law yet.
Been using System Helmets for the past 10-15 years myself. My current one (Nolan) is approved as both open and closed helmet. So it could in theory be used as open face helmet in UK and closed helmet in Spain.

At least in the UK you'd be OK for 10 years after the plan to ban open faced.
I do think they're dangerous, mind, despite the feeling of freedom.
