Issue 86 Britain's Oldest Road Trip GPX File

Post by billy-abr »

G'day

I'm not sure if those hooded pilgrims in tattered robes had the use of Garmins back in the day, but if they did, this is the route they'd be following as the tramped through the countryside from Winchester to Canterbury. I suspect such devices would make them more attractive targets for roaming brigands...

Anyway, for those with SatNavs, here's the GPX file for Britain's Oldest Road Trip in issue 86 of ABR, which is based on The Old Way pilgrimage route that is speculated from the Gough Map. There's plenty of info in the mag about it but it's also worth a bit of online rabbit-holing for the curious.

The GPX itself has POIs listed for the interesting sites along the way. I've included a few green lanes along the route, however the GPX is routed purely for the road.

For those wanting to head off-road, the start of each green lane is labelled as a POI within the GPX, so you should be able to find them alright, and there's also the postcodes in the description in the mag to help you. There's quite a few to explore around the village of Wye just outside of Canterbury as well.

Enjoy.

Cheers

Billy
