Radiator guards - a query?

Post by Scott_rider »

I should say that this query relates to road bikes not dirt bikes. I recently fitted a racing radiator guard to my Suzuki GSXS1000F and I'm convinced that the bike was running far too hot after it had been fitted. So much so, that after a 200 mile trip to Calais and then to Cambrai in France, I 'snipped' it off when we stopped for a coffee. I was fed up with the fan coming on at the slightest low speeds, and I was also convinced that the bike had excessive engine braking on a closed throttle :? .

That in itself was weird because I can't see why the bike would have extra engine braking? The racing radiator guard push fits flush on the radiator and is made of a type of rubber/synthetic material. Anyone got any experience or thoughts on this?

No experience of the Suz but can you tune the ECU so that the fan cuts in a few degrees higher? JAT.
I've come to the conclusion that modern bikes are sh!te.

As we all know modern bikes run weak so hot engines.. also as said a ecu remap sorts the weak running and also a fan temp change works well....I'm not a fan of them radiator guards as air flow is reduced.

The internet seems to say that a hot engine can cause extra engine braking, something to do with extra resistance inside the engine when its hot. I'm a mechanical buffoon but it's intriguing me... :?
