Only driven it in a knackered Rover 25 substitute rental car (which we thrashed mercilessly for two weeks).
Great roads both sides and the best grilled gambas in the halfway restaurant on the south side. I recall the north side was much quieter but it was some years ago now.

This screenshot was the only general route we took with us for that trip and combined it with the bendy routes option on TomTom at each stop... ...but we got there...
