Not for everyone but think how many more tracks and bridleways there are that BOATS and RUPPs.

Lots of us already riding eMTB
We buy things we don't need
With money we don't have
To impress people we don't even like

More amazing things you can do on an e-MTB.
Just saying ;--)
(This was at the end of a 1000-mile crossing of Mauritania, north to south; see Cyril's previous vids)

Yep, all is good with regard to eMTB-ing.... plenty of off-road stuff here in Kent. I really don't think I'll be using my DRZ on BOATs again - I'm pretty sure it's the noise of an ICE bike which upsets a lot of folks. I think an e-trailbike is the way forward if I replace the DRZ.

Is this the future of UK trail biking?..... it may well be, but it is an awful lot of fun.
I first got into ebikes with a Bafang conversion kit on an old '90 mtb, then quickly progressed to a converted full suspension bike, added a converted hybrid as well to the stable and now have a full fat enduro "bought" emtb.
Last year I did the Trans Cambrian Trail across Wales, 3 days and around 100 miles, with most of it of road. The previous years trip was Cardiff to Angelsey on Sustrans route 8, yes on road but very very small ones. Both trips took me to new places despite having ridden up and down Wales loads of times.
Sadly my best friend is no longer with us.

Re: Is this the future of UK trail biking?
Electric certainly seems the be the way to go .. I presume people are charging up the battery at campsites? as mine only lasts 30 miles. And there is the problem. Unless u buy an extra battery at £600, then although 30 miles seems a lot, its only 15 miles one way .. say 1 hour there, and 1 hour back, That's not a proper days riding, is it. My other mtb is quite hard, for me, to ride very far btw .. perhaps it just need servicing (me too lol).
I've got a bicycle carrier rack for the back of my Fiesta car ... its such a faf, as u can't leave it on the car around here lol .. but i hope to use it more this year .. mid wales on tarmac trails. ? The thing is, with the crf250, I can just ride from home, even for 100 miles away, then enjoy a quiet trail ride, and ride back home.
btw
I hate this `don't want to disturb people` point of view, even though i think the same. The TRF are the same. If we own it ... own it !! Why should we pussyfoot [with petrol engines] along legal lanes we are entitled to? Though admittedly, life is so much easier with a quiet Emtb, and access to the countryside really opens things up.
At least we got the choice, if we have motorbike and Emtb.

Re: Is this the future of UK trail biking?
Range, the question everyone always asks.
I think half the problem is changing ones expectations regarding speed and distance. All my bikes have the same size battery(625wh) but each have a different range. These days even bigger batteries are common.
The converted hybrid has the best as it's used mainly on roads, is the lightest and easily goes over 60 miles, the most I've had is over 80 miles with a bit still left.
The converted full sus mtb's range varies a lot depending on terrain, but anything from 40 to 70 miles.
The "bought" emtb is a bit less because of it being torque sensing and the power is so much more accessible.
A neighbour was having "range issues" and it turns out they were not changing down the gears for hills, just turning up the power. A change in riding style ie using the gears more has almost doubled the range.
One thing I always find amusing is getting a ebike nay sayer on one and watching their face after a few minutes, usually beaming ear to ear.

Re: Is this the future of UK trail biking?
its really hard to put a range on a e bike ..i went from southport to chester just using tha canal banks and national cycleways ..and managed to get the 67 miles comfortably on eco ..two bars to spare on 625 battery suggests it may have done 100 miles ..the route was picked for being coastal therefor flat ..very little elevation ... all hardpack or tar tracks easy going
flip that over and around rivington with very steep climbs and rocks and soft ground i need the high settings ...its pretty much done at twenty miles ,,but that ok cos so am i
so many variables.. assist level rider input terrain wind blah blah but yes im a big fan of the ebike ...never /ever take a car local to run errends its faster on the bike ..no parking issues ace

Re: Is this the future of UK trail biking?
Another factor is tyres.
We all know big knobs suck power and wear like crazy on the road and emtb's are no different. For mixed riding ie roads and bridal ways I use something with a continuous solid ring of rubber like a Schwalbe Marathon Plus MTB on the rear
https://www.schwalbe.com/en/tour-reader ... n-plus-mtb
If I'm on mainly all trails the chuncky boys come out on a spare set of wheels.
I too find that I'm done when the battery is.
I guess you could say it's another version of "Go Big and Ride Small"
