Looking good there Spike.
Friday 30th September
Our 1st full day in Spain. Weather forecast was right - heavy rain. So waterproofs on & we headed, as planned south west out of Bilbao along the BI 3651.
Barry was happy to lead and the rest of us were happy to follow. He was handy with the Google nav app on his phone and had a knack of finding good roads. We continued onto the BI 3602, BI 636, CL 629. At Bercedo we continued on the BU 526 & stopped at a bar/cafe in Casa Goiko.
Bar Goiko - nice wee spot & it was strange to have Van the Man belting out Gloria from the music player as we entered.
The main aim of this route today was to avoid the rain & as we progressed now west this aim was being achieved with the rain starting to ease off.
Picos & Northern Spain. 3rd time lucky.

Re: Picos & Northern Spain. 3rd time lucky.
After a welcome coffee we head off again along the Bu526, then join the BU 564, continue on the BU 642 and stop at a large Lake beside Reinosa
We were discussing if we should either go along the North side or the South side back at our coffee stop. We decided the south side - a good call because the weather definitely looked worse over the North side of the lake.
At last the rain had stopped & the weather forecast for the rest of the week was looking good

We follow the CA 730 to Reinosa the south along the N 611. At Aguilar de Campoo its North on the CL 626.
Another stop to officially remove all waterproofs. The weather was picking up nicely
At Guardo we head north on the P215, continuing onto the LE 215, where we got our first proper look at the Picos, with, which we found out later had received thier 1st fall of snow of the incoming winter

We follow the LE 215 to the end and turn right onto the N621, then left onto the LE 2703, then right & up to Cordinanes de Valdeon. Great scenery, great roads
The Husky 401 was low on fuel - so we headed off down the LE 2711 and N625 to Riano to re- fuel. Another lovely spot.

Whilst here, we booked our nights accommodation in Potes, and headed back up the N621 to book in for the night.
Potes is a lovely town - lots of bars, cafes & restaurants to choose from , historic buildings & bridges and surrounded by great roads & scenery.

Food was damn good too!
So - after our wet start, it turned out to be a great biking day - roughly 200 miles. We walked up the street to our accommodation and would check out which direction we would head from here in the morning over breakfast-

Nice one
. I’ve only been to the Picos once and would love to go back. That area between Reinosa and Guardo is truly superb for a fast, sweeping ride.
