Add in that car manufacturers are fast making running ICE cleaner. Mazda plans to get 56% thermal efficiency from their forthcoming Skyactiv-3 engine. That means reduction in pollution by near 2/3 in quarter of a century. EV were just about even 5-10 years ago. They have been improving with greener energy but now they'll become the more polluting option.

But as far as our government is concerned the only 'green' vehicle is an electric one. Ideally not owned by an individual and controlled remotely so they know exactly were you have been and when.

They want to put that technology into ICE too.
By the way, funny story. A friend has the Mustang electric car. The cruise control has a read speed signs feature. While driving on the autobahn it kept slowing down, using the brakes, when it came across the "speed limit in rain" signs.

Ref the Wales blanket limit. I may be incorrect however I read somewhere that a Public Consultation in Wales returned an overwhelming majority of welsh were against the proposal.
Despite this the politicians have pressed ahead.
Shouldn't we be more worried about the increasing frequency of politicians using consultations as smokescreens, to be ignored if they don't like the outcome?

It's what they do.
A mate of mine has a commute which goes through a series of 'ribbon' villages: It currently takes him about half an hour on a motorcycle. He'll be spending more time on the road each day, creating more pollution...and for what?

Re: Don't bother going to Wales again
Just this week I rode from the north of England down through Wales to get to Devon.
I thought it would take longer but be worth it for a great ride. I hate motorway riding so I decided to go the pretty route and have a B and B in the hills somewhere.
Well, it was a lovely ride down through Bluith Wells and Abergavenny but my God, there must be ten or twenty times the speed restrictions in place than in England.
It’s a real pain. I like Wales very much, and the Welsh but I’m not sure I’d bother riding it again. It wasn’t enjoyable. And if I take the car next time, I’ll take the motorway. I’m not sure this is a forward step for Wales unless they have enough tourist revenue and can do without.

Re: Don't bother going to Wales again
I travel to my daughter in Long Marston near Tring fairly regularly.
Over the last 3 1/2 years I have never been able to average better than 40mph whether I go to Fishguard [M4] or Holyhead [M1/M6/A55]. Nothing to do with me or the bike, just traffic, restrictions, roadworks and the usual stuff. I get much the same average bimbling about in Wales on non motorways.
I can comfortably average 70mph in France.

It's not just Wales, I had to come off the M6 last night and found myself in 20mph limits very quickly and then came across a 12p toll bridge to cross the Manchester ship canal!

That's the Warburton Viaduct, been there for years and usually bikes go over free, you must have been unlucky. I don't know of any 20mph limits round there though but Irlam and Urmston might have changed.
