cumbria
Hi all! this is my first post, so here goes! I'm 61 and returning to biking on a Tiger 850 sport after a brief lay-off ( 20 years ). In my youth i've travelled round europe on bikes but never got to explore our own little island. I'm thinking of making a little trip round the lake district, a place I've always wanted to visit, following a route that was written about in a ABR mag some time ago. This route involved riding along the Wrynose and Hardknott passes. Have I anything to fear!!! Dave

Re: cumbria
Both fantastic roads, and being from the southern flatlands the uphill tight bends were a challenge but my real claim to fame was riding Hardknott in the dark!!!! truly a nervy experience but a great adrenaline filled moment lol.. Go for it and enjoy...

Re: cumbria
May I suggest a rider training coarse before riding solo... After 20 years you'll be very rusty... Sure the insurance companies will ask... Its a commin sence safety thing...
My mates do one every spring after not riding over winter... Instills confidence for them..
Happy biking... Best days in lakes are during the week...

Re: cumbria
The thing about Hardknott and Wryenose is that the bends are down/up hill, tight and off camber so even at 6ft you would need another 2 foot of leg to try to hold the bike up if you have to stop, the key to it is lots of forward vision and planning to avoid having to stop.
The first time I rode it on my 1200GS I nearly bashed the cylinder head on 'that' rock (you will know which rock if you've ridden it) .

Open your eyes and you see what is in front of you, open your mind and you see a bigger picture but open your heart and you see a whole new World.

Re: cumbria
I bought an oldish as in 1992 K100LT in 2010, at that point 53. Replaced a Honda CX500 I had for an extended period.
In 2017 on a nice trip to France, camping coincidentally Catcitrus from here on the same trip. 61 at that point. During my time there bought a K1100LT that a friend back home decided to sell. I had left my car off the road [SORN to UK guys] and for summer as I tended to do.
Picked up the K1100LT and got to like it immediately, so much so that 4 years later the car is still on the same SORN,. I have also added 2 others since and ride them all.
I hit 65 next June so my advice: enjoy those bikes as long as you physically can. It stops you getting old.
In normal years I get about 24,000 miles up on them.
