Harpic x10 any good???
Ok so ive seen the videos of harpic x10 bringing header pipes back to something almost gleaming! and as my headers are looking a bit dull with rusty mud encrusted on them i wondered who has used this stuff to good effect. Now my headers are titanium and all the vids seem to be on stainless steel so any science types out there know if its ok to use on titanium or will they melt away before my very (goggle covered) eyes......

Hi Dibbs.
For titanium you need the right reagent. Either nitric acid, or ammonia-based solvents/cleaners should do the trick. Use good rubber gloves of course. I've cleaned lots of titanium exhausts with Harpic-type stuff, but anything lightly abrasive will help get the crud off, followed by WD40 or maybe autosol once you are looking at the metal itself.

Believe it or not they sell hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, and I think I even saw LiOH once (which is the strongest alkali you'll find) - all in big supermarkets like Carrefour here in France. It surprised me when I first moved over, but there they are on the shelf just along from the white spirit and sodium bicarbonate.

I was recently tempted to use Harpic 10x on my 13yr old Suzuki DL1000 Strom exhaust downpipes, but used Solvo Autosol instead along with a piece of mutton cloth with excellent end results.....!
No need for Harpic......just good old elbow grease etc.......superb.
Cheers;

Yes Russ i am! i bought some last week but cant even get the enthusiasm to try it out. You are right about getting them all cruddy next time out though, perhaps that is what is stopping me.
