Link - old school topbox & despatching. My ride when freelancing with Roadrunner Despatch, based near St Pancras. Then graduating to getting a company CD185 with WPhoto near Centre Point

Re: Photo chain link...
Love that photo, Nick. I did a bit of despatching as a student (easy stuff, Bristol to WC1 mainly, with legal documents), and often shared a rollie with the proper hard-arse couriers when taking a break. One of them could approach a red light on the Gloucester road, roll a fag in the time he was sat there, light it and then ride off with it in his mouth when they went green. He used to have a shit top box like yours, bungied on to his GT550, which he would use to carry vital organs in ice between hospitals FFS... !
Along the same lines, I read a story once about a doctor in a transplant unit who was asked if there would be sufficient donor organs later that day. He looked out of the window on to the London streets below and said, yes no problem, it's raining...

I worked Mostly for Addi Lee & West One in the mid 80's, my mate who worked for Apollo had a MINT Suzuki X7 250 with pegs and levers etc literally gold plated ! My mate Ray, who was the fasted ever motor crosser I ever knew worked on a Honda a H100 doing minimums all day long ! and Charlie the grubbiest guy I ever knew rode an old CX from Solihull daily to work the London circuit.
I avoided top boxes at all costs in an attempt to look cool ! ( and avoid undue attention when on a deadline run !) Alway kept my work rides clean.
except for the KLR which always took a pounding when riding past suitable woods !
I'm still at it (part time/distance only) after a thirty year break just for enjoyment sake !
My 2 favourite babes from the 80's -

Yes ,I kid you not, and he's only ever had one broken leg too. Back in 87 he had a blue six hundred with ridiculously long MX forks on it. Looked so cool but he'd be all over the place on motorways. All in the pursuit of coolness ! He's almost 70 now ! (saw him a couple of weeks back on anSH125 ,but didn't get a chance to stop and ask him why ?)
