Just checked my valves on a 2013 Water Cooled GS at 22,000 miles. Only one inlet valve slightly tight. This is the 4th time i have checked these and check 3 times at each siting to get an average (i know i should ride more and get bored easily) but they never have drifted.
Checking is a doodle but when reading, some of these bikes go well over 50k and never need re-shimming, any thoughts anyone, anyone had a re shim

Re: GS1200 Water Cooled Valves
Did 180K miles on my 1100 gs and never needed a re shim. I realise the WC is different but still the engine is really under stressed, unless you ride really fast!
My wife’s WC has done over 30K miles with no adjustment - to be honest I don’t think the main dealer even looks at them when it’s serviced, they do the whole thing in half a day which is not long enough for a proper cool down.
Next time you go to check them, take it for a spin instead
