That hub looks very similar to some Rieju and Derbi models.

Greetings Tonibe63,

The idea is on my list of possibilities if I can not find a suitable replacement.

TIG welding or fitting a sleeve might be my only routes if I can not find another hub. Temporally, I have used Loctite 603 leaving it now to cure for a few days but to honest I am reluctant to ride. I have marked the current location of the bearings to check for possible movement.

Thanks for the suggestion and if anybody knows of a company or person who could do this please get in touch.

Could one of the bearing factors match you up with a bearing that has a slightly larger OD but the same size ID for the wheel spindle?

Greetings Rob,

Thanks, a good idea but it would still require the hub to be machined and there would be little shoulder width left for support.

Hugh. You’d probably only need it to be about 1mm bigger, perhaps even less. That’s only 1/2mm off each side of the shoulder and yes I know it’s round so it doesn’t have sides - before someone else jumps in
I wouldn’t have thought that would weaken the shoulder significantly and it would get you going again until you could source a new hub

Hello again Rob,

So far as I can find the next size up jumps from 17mm inner diameter, 35mm outer diameter and 10mm depth to 17mm 40mm 16mm, whilst the outer diameter of the hub is only 45mm diameter.

If I can not find a replacement hub then I think that TIG welding and machining might be the best alternative but that requires specialist knowledge and facilities.

One chap off the APTR website has very kindly offered me his spare hub but it is from an earlier trials bike, narrower and will require different modifications.

Hugh, if spares are that difficult--and sensibly welding and re-machining the hub might require the rim and spokes to be stripped off for lathe mounting--would it not be sensible to look at a wheel from , say, a Honda CRF230 or similar and get spacers and a new spindle machined up to suit--that is the way people seem to do wheel conversions--and choose one that is pretty common.

Greetings,

Catcitrus thanks for your suggestion, I am going tomorrow to do just that but to compare with another similar GasGas hub that has been located. A down side is that it uses a smaller brake disc however that might be the least of my worries.

I will let you know how I get on, if it works I will post up what has been fitted and what may have to be converted.

crf 230 wheel is no good its drum brake.
Hugh with tyre removed a machine shop could bore hub to round and machine a steel sleeve to suite bearing O.D.. loctite the sleeve into the hub ready for bearing. Or build up the damaged area of the hub with an chemical aluminium filler and have it bored to bearing size.

Greetings,

It has taken quite some time (not to mention money) but at last I hope to have sorted out the rear wheel problems.

I sourced a replacement used GG JTX hub and had it laced into a new tubeless rim plus new tyre. A replacement brake disc plus wheel spacers have been machined and a replacement final drive chain and sprockets fitted too. Hope to test it all out soon.

Hopefully the bike should now be good to go, fingers crossed.
