Rant time, just got back from my hour long cycle through our part of the new forest and the amount of elderly out in open top cars sightseeing and the old gits sat in deck chairs by the camper vans, when I approached them and asked if they'd been exercising... All I got was abuse and piss off... They didn't understand the millions of people sacrificing their jobs and freedom by staying at home to protect the elderly and infirm...

But justice was sweat as round the corner came a forest verderor and local Bobby...

If its good enough to fine 2 lads out getting fish and chips it's good enough to fine the elderly on their pensions while millions get just unemployment money and are on there ass...


It makes my piss boil... Ungrateful sod's..

It's getting hard isn't it?
I'm itching to get the bike out for more than a 2 mile trip to Tesco and I havn't flown in months, I have started inventing gardening jobs and have had some very strange dreams lately.

Its all a bit surreal when the danger is something that you can't see, hear or even smell...after a while its tempting to think that everything is ok, after all your not ill and nobody you know has ended up in Hospital or dead...so it must all be exaggerated , its not that bad after all

reading an article the other day that was stating that being in the open air you are far less likely to catch covid to the extent the guy said it was almost impossible, staying indoors you were more likely to catch covid. Sunshine and vitamin "D" was very helpful for your health and mental well being, so going outside and exercising was a better option than staying in. Can't remember the guys name now but he was meant to be a top specialist

For those interested in such things, whilst I am not sure about honest politicians, the current format for the House of Commons means that members can no longer hide behind the baying of their members. PMQs was a good example today and Zarah Sutana’s (great name) question to Raab last week about whether the UK was going to follow other countries’ examples and not bail out those who avoid paying taxes here was interesting, as was his blustering response. Maybe they should look at continuing this way of working in the future, it might cut down the amount that we pay MPs in expenses.
I am really fortunate in my situation, living with my family on the edge of the Derbyshire Dales and still enjoying the occasional ride to work. However some of my friends are not as fortunate. What this crisis has made abundantly clear is that it is through the good will and hard work of ordinary (or extraordinary) workers in the NHS and key roles that this country will pull through, not through any advance planning or self sacrifice from the majority of MPs or millionaires. It is also very apparent that poverty is the biggest factor in who is likely to die. I hope that people will remember this after the event.

really then why is it not running rampant through India and Africa, or is it your anti "Con" attitude effecting your view point

if you think the "cons" austerity was bad then wait to see what will come around the corner with the collapse of the economy that lockdown has created and how much damage that will do to the NHS and how much we will be taxed, vat'ed and reamed a new one to pay for this. The next generation or two will be clearing this debt.

late 60's the was a flu incident that killed something like 800k we didn't crash the economy for that, what will we do for the next flu season ? I think there was in the region of 19k death due to flu in 2019

I was working testing out new suspension for a well known suspension company ...it is a new product for there range....and it was purely ride up to plains 30mins from me ..test for 1 hour then straight home...and i did work up a sweat ..unlike the old gits sitting in their deck chairs...I even spoke to a range warden .....hows the drink problem ?

Hi, it is nothing to do with being anti Tory, although I am proud to admit to that.
The fact is that vastly more people in areas of poverty in the UK have died from Covid than in more affluent areas. It is fairly obvious really, if you live in overcrowded areas and have poor health you are more likely to catch Covid or other similar diseases and more likely to die from them.
The data here which is printed in the Guardian, but comes from Public Health England, makes salutary reading.

I am not sure where you get your information about deaths in Africa and India from but I think all we have seen is the tip of the iceberg there. The WHO yesterday predicted there could be 190,000 deaths in Africa this year.
Whilst the Tories systematic running down of public services under the guise of austerity (funny how Boris found the magic money forest just before the last election) did not cause Covid it certainly contributed to its negative impact. The failure to heed the advice of 2016 report, which other countries acted on, is almost criminally negligent. If you have the time to read some other countries’ news you will find the a lot of them are extremely critical of the UK government’s response, particularly given that we had seen what was happening in Italy in time to be better prepared.

Latest from France, following fresh announcements from Eduard Phillipe yesterday.

On Monday 11th we move into 'Probation' phase. We basically all have until mid June to prove that we are keeping the R number below 1, despite an easing of the strictest lockdown phase. If the infection figures start rising again then we go back into full lockdown. The country is divided into Green and Red zones. Paris and a lot of the North-East side of France remain red, so the stricter lockdown remains there. The majority of France (all of North-West / West / South-West and Southern France are currently green zones, where the new slightly less strict lockdown is allowed. The zones can change from Green to Red, or vice versa, according to how the figures change as they are monitored.

The end to the strict lockdown in Green Zone France does not mean an end to form-filling.

Anyone travelling more than 100km after Monday will need to have an “imperative” professional or personal reason and carry sworn declarations to that effect. To enforce the regulations, extra police and gendarmes will be posted on major roads, motorways, service stations and popular holiday destinations.

We now have more details on what those “imperative” reasons might be.

1) Work. If your journey is more than 100km you may – it’s not clear entirely yet – need an attestation from your employer stating the journey is necessary. There are obvious exceptions to the 100km rule including transport workers.

2) Family emergency. If you need to travel more than 100km to take urgent care of a child or sick relative. Just visiting a family member is not allowed. People can travel to funerals, but there is a limit on gatherings to 10 people.

3) Moving house. Only if this cannot be postponed and you face being homeless ie, your current lease is ending.
Returning home. Foreign nationals have the right to return to their home country. French people who fled the lockdown to second homes can return to their main residence even if it’s over 100km but journeys in the opposite direction will not be allowed.

4) Medical appointments, legal and administrative procedures.

The 100km limit is the total length of the journey as the crow flies from your home address but you can travel between departments whatever its colour on the coronavirus map. The government has helpfully put online a tool that allows people to calculate the distance. As well as the declarations and attestations you will need something proving your principal address like a utility bill or rental contract.

So now it all depends on how probation goes...

Brother in law melted the torch on the mig welder this week, non of the local companies had one in stock but a welding supplies company about an hour away stocks all the parts needed so rather than go in the van I used my bike with top box.
Even though it was only a 2 hour ride it didn't half help make me feel better.

So let me get this straight being “elderly and on their pension” as stated by Tramp is now something to warrant a comment on here? Well I’m afraid you won’t get me apologising for being in that situation, I’ve been working 52yrs, & still work part time, never drawn unemployment benefit or any other benefit so I can assure you Mr Tramp my conscience is clear.
