You pay Italian VAT now whilst in the single market.

AFAIK the arrangement won't change until the transition period ends (Dec 2020)

Many thanks,
I just wasn't sure at what date we will be due to start buying goods VAT free at source and then paying UK VAT.
(In some cases, DK moms for example is 25%, that's gonna be worth sourcing VAT free in the future) ;)

It will depend entirely on the nature of the trade deal that the UK negotiates with the EU in the next 10 (!) months. But until December 2020 nothing will change in respect of your Italian parts.

Said deal then also has to be ratified by each state in the EU27 before the deadline.

Bear in mind they are all sovereign states, and each will have their own axe to grind. For instance Germany and France will want free movement of manufactured goods, the French and Dutch will want free movement of agricultural produce, the smaller more 'eastern' countries will want free movement of people, the Belgians, Dutch and French will want access to fisheries, and the UK will want access to the EU 27 for financial services.

Realistic?

As others have said in theory nothing should change until the transition period is over. What could have a bigger impact is the value of the pound which will go up or down depending on what trade deals we end up with. If we get a good deal with the US and a crap one with Europe perhaps there will be a mad rush to trade in GSs and KTMs for Harley’s new adventure bike. 😂
It is all a huge gamble and unfortunately most economists and Leave politicians think that we will all be losers in the short(ten to thirty years) term.
Cheers

We will be negotiating the deal in the year when the most nationalistic US president of the post-war era is up for re-election.

Our current biggest export to the USA is luxury cars. Under the EU - USA deal they currently pay little duty on import to the USA.

Our NHS also benefits from price controls that the EU imposes on American drug imports.

Expect both those situations to change as our inexperienced negotiators struggle to do deals with a USA where the watchword is "America first' while at the same time trying to salvage what they can from the EU, and do deals with China and Japan.

Still, you can always console yourself by looking at your BLUE PASSPORT (printed in Poland) and waving your Union Jack (made in China).

I recently purchased a set of Givi panniers and fitting kit from a company in Italy, great service, great price. It is what the single market is all about.

Remember the 90's and grey imports? There may be soon be a market for them again.

Just had a email from one of our suppliers in Europe where I work. Saying that we can expect severe delays in the supply chain and receiving goods, due to restrictions in place regarding the Coronavirus, even though we don't get anything from China (that we know of). It says Chinese new year, 2 week holiday / shutdown, has been extended and further restrictions are being considered.
So be careful to know where your parts are coming from.
