In search of a good night sleep

Post by Benson-1215 »

Ok after two years using my Hi Gear sleeping mat £15 @ Go outdoors the only way I could get a good night sleep was to drink a good amount of red wine ( which at 50+ means a dash to the hedge in the early morning). I have upgrade this to a Alpkit Dumo which seems a tad thin on width but a definite improvement on the old one.
So my question is what are others using when camping ? ImageImage

Nice compact, warm, can be a tad noisy and a bit of an effort to inflate. May invest in one of their pumps one day

Self inflating one from Alpkit. Very light and thin , first time I used it I thought no way I would sleep well. wrong it is super comfy.

Exped. I have the cheapest on available which is good, my wife has a down filled one which is better particularly in the winter. In my opinion better than Thermarest, a bit smaller to pack away but a bit more of a faff to inflate and deflate. The outside tubes are slightly bigger which stops you rolling off.

I've tried the thin self inflating roll mate and the thicker ones at 20 odd stone there useless.the best thing I've found is a Coleman single air bed which I carry there 12v pump and use 1 of those tin foil type blankets over the top tucked under for colder nights paired with my snugpak it's like being at home

Half-a-dozen Belgian Trappist Ales and a single malt chaser or two (you Southern tart) and it won't matter what you sleep on, or where you sleep ….. just sleep! Trust me ....

A hotel room with king size bed, mini bar and en-suite for middle of the night visitation(s).

Wish they had sleeping mats in the 70’s when my wife and I did go camping on the bike. :(
I’m sure the ground was harder and stonier back then. ;)

well I have tried inflatable, blow up, pump up, self-inflate, solid roll mat, .. none worked or were poor

gave it one more shot ..
£9 Eurohike airbed with built in pump
easy, worked a treat … warm and comfy (but a bit rolly-polly  )

ps .. those examples look great bits of kit .. but costalot

And in keeping with the Trappist beer makers, you won't say a word all night...
