apart from the dangerous sudden stop..
[/size]I find this report worrying as a bike with DCT cannot be push started?
[enlighten me if incorrect?
I presume this would mean you get stranded off road if u battery dies?
which is more likely than on tarmac?]
the filter .. it looks like swarf to me
(Honda has (sort of) form on this, as the crf250L has bits of silicone gasket in the oil filter mesh, from new?)
I am wondering if this deposit, in your bike, comes from the petrol pump innards ? ? ?

Re: Ops Life threatening problem with my ATAS
Had the same on my Honda Trials bike with efi, a few weeks ago at a Trial
Did a Trial, which was cold and with a few hailstorms, no dust
First lap, did half the sections and travelling along a bumpy track in 4th gear, to an outlying section and bike just cut out dead (nearly threw me over the bars, it was so violent, like stomping on the brakes) - pulled clutch in sharpish (learnt from seizing 2 strokes in my youth )
Coasted to a halt and went down the box to find neutral, kickstarted her up and perfect.
Did section ok, no issues......................until riding back along same track again, in 5th this time
Mucho coughing and spluttering, this time.
Did and efi reset and fired her up, at this point I was the furthest away from the Van, I could be........typical
Took my 3-4 restart attempts to get the bike back to the Van, out of this moor and gully
Got back to the Start field and checked fuel, plenty in and I always run Premium Super 99
Topped he up, then put a new plug in and she fired straight up and ticked over like a good'un
Had a few laps of the start field - a MX track and she was fine, so went and completed the other 2.5 laps fine
Ran sweet, put it down to the plug failing
In the following week, I had a look at fuel filter tea bag and pump, similar to yours and had sandy/grit particles in it - just like yours and a bit of water (1-2 globules)
Put her back together and all good
Bike is 10 years old and in excellent nick - never done it before and tea bag filter has been sparkly clean everytime
I can only put it down to UK fuel stations as there is nowhere else it could have come from as I am meticulaous when filling up and use a funnel with a fine mesh filter in the spout
I guess Honda efi systems don't like grit & dirt
I doubt the problem was in your bike since new and has occurred in the last few months from dirty fuel and/or fuel contamination

Yeah , sorry if it came across as being critical towards you , it wasn't supposed to be. Also I have to admit , I've never heard of DCT and hadn't realised the implications.sexysi wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2019 11:42 am
It is also a DCT, so it's not as if i can just chuck it into neutral and happily roll to the hard shoulder and get my spanners out, when it cuts out. It is a big twin that will automatically engine brake and there aint a sausage i can do about it when it does.
I thought if it is the case that the tank and fuel system has not been washed out, then as another user has said, QC needs to be bolloxed!!!!

No problem Steve. Not very happy with being almost killed by a new bike.
So big update from Dealer. This is a warranty job, costing Honda £2,500. The bike needs new fuel pump, new injectors, all new gaskets basically anything to do with fuel. Plus a new tank, I reminded them that it was an anniversary AT so needs the special sticker. They reckon about another week before all the parts come in. They are collecting all my parts to analyse.
So this could possibly be a manufacturing fault or lack of cleaning before assembling fault.

I've got the same bike I've also heard a few stories about the lining In the tank that should be cleaned before assembly hasn't been done. That would clog the system
Re: Ops Life threatening problem with my ATAS
I have had contact from 2 other owners with the same problem.
These photos are from 2 different bikes with the same problem. Su

Re: Ops Life threatening problem with my ATAS
digressing a bit..
this video shows the dual clutch layout ..
https://youtu.be/vgj_ZUZa3WA
ps
the swarf looks like it could well have come from the tank (liner)
I hope other Honda models are not affected like this
but is an item to check ( fuel filter/pump ) at my next major service
pps

wish I hadn't seen this road test video
I want one now
just needs a few tweeks
100kg lighter and 1 foot lower

Re: Ops Life threatening problem with my ATAS
Glad honda are being good boys... As a thought if its from the tank linning whatever that is...
Maybe the e10 ethanol in fuel now is breaking down the linning... As surely not all counties use it and why would the dct models tanks be any different to others in honda range?...
Id deffinately pay for extended warrenty in your case..

Re: Ops Life threatening problem with my ATAS
self correction … I tried pressing the N neutral switch today, while riding … nothing happened !!
Re: Ops Life threatening problem with my ATAS
My thinking, is maybe it is just the Adventure Sport version, as everyone that has contacted me has one of those. The tank is different to the standard Africa Twin as it is larger, so maybe they use a different process in those tanks.....
