EDC 2017 Maroc Ride Report

I've been away from biking and subsequently this site for the last 06 months...but to return to this jewel is fantastic!
The write up, the photographs, the video the camaraderie and the concept of interacting with the locals, makes this write up excellent.
How many in total went?...
I get the feeling that a lack of water played a part somewhere in the future?

You hit the nail on the head there Rod!

The camaraderie amongst the group and interaction with the locals is everything on a trip like this. If you don't get involved with the group around you or at least try to interact with some of the locals then you miss out on so much... a smile and a handshake is sometimes all that is needed (with both the locals and the gang of misfits around you!)

This was a great trip - even for the Road Riders, who were admirably led by Steve (Crofty) when Keith was off road.

Part 2 of the video should take us nicely to that point!

Another super video Al........thanks for taking the time and effort to produce it.

So we ride on to where it gets silty and stop as we see the French arrive with a local Defender pick up on tow. We wait on them and I check the time....we should find a place to camp just now as it will gives us daylight to prep everything. A quick look around and there's an ideal spot less less than a 100m from trail and on soft going. Great!!

Of course whilst we'd been chatting I did my usual trick of leaving my ignition on sufficiently to flatten the battery...this is normal for me and after Al laughs at me again he produces a very small booster power pack the size of a small diary and with clips to start me up.











This man runs the last auberge on the trail LHS, before you arrive at Lac Maider on the outskirts of Tafraout . You can't miss it as you'll be riding slow on an annoying short trail of silt about nine inches deep as you pass the entrance.





We arrange to stop with him the next morning for tea etc.



We all choose a spot for our tents and make camp in a relaxed manner....the benefits of autonomous are apparent in such circumstance.


Luckily Christophe was at hand to photograph Tony before Al assists....




























Al of course hoses himself laughing at another stricken goat....it's vital that you laugh first, take a picture and then help... We expect nothing less.
