Such trips can be done respectfully. I was in the region in 2015; Mostar was heaving, mainly because of the notoriety of the bridge during the war, in Sarajevo there is a tunnel museum where I learned how the city got round a year long siege.

Well you've said so I believe it, but take a look through Kate Adie's book and note that my friend, who before he became a cameraman for RTVE was chopper pilot in the Spanish Air Force and was shot at over 200 times before his nerve broke - he counted ...

PS I'm thinking of a Spanish friend of mine whose career as cameraman ended after six weeks in Sarajevo and an ex-infantry Brit biker who was in UNHCR logistics who still has nightmares ...
I get your point totally.
The tour was initially an idea as most of my friends who where in the army, served out there.
All have, as you'd expect horrific story's / memories. its 20 years ago now, and the places have changed drastically.
The tour hopefully will allow some lads to travel back and see some of the sights and places they served, BUT also we are looking for sites of beauty and wonder, of which there is plenty about. Its not about the past, but more about the future, hopefully changing memories of evil horror to hopefully something much better.

That's good Nethen. Have you seen the story of the Swedish army bloke who did just that a few years ago? I can't find it now but a lot of folks on r¡tis forum read about it. The story went that his int faced out a very dangerous road block - at the time the Swedes, who were a conscript army, didn't have much of a reputation amongst the rest of the NATO forces - and got through. The 'rescued' village even named a new school after the unit. Very moving story.

Can I also suggest dropping in to Travnik just north ( ish ) of Sarajevo, called "Little Istanbul" due to number of mosques and their age. Small but full of history. British troops were stationed in the area during the war, I had a very enjoyable night drinking beer in the castle above the town talking to 3 young men who had been translators at the time.
The Balkans are beautiful, the people wonderful and welcoming but the Bosnian police do seem to target bikes as an easy pull.

we visited mostar a couple of weeks ago and it most definitely needs to be on the list, however, the old rebuilt town and bridge is very much a tourist trap now. They bus cruise ship parties in from Dubrovnik so late afternoon is the best time. The sniper tower is still there for now along with a few other remnants but I think I would be low key with how I booked the tour in a few places. It would be a shame not to visit the Adriatic coast though.
The secret of a long life is knowing when its time to go.
