Indeed. She didn't spend 5 days walking thinking about how to get the best deal for Britain, she spent it figuring out how to win her battles, and get her own way, and she's not stupid.

Isn't it concerning though, that we have someone who seems more interested in "My way or the highway, and I'll pull whatever stunts are needed to get my way", than someone who is actually interested in democracy?

Are you intimating that this is a new thing.

IRRC, until the recent fixed term parliament act, all previous governments selected the election timing to fit in with their best chance of them getting back in power. Sometimes they ran out of time, sometimes not.

Oh, and you are correct, she is not stupid, unlike Corbyn etc.

I have a great idea about elections generally.

We should double up on each one. i.e 2 general elections, 2 referendums etc for the same set of results, say 4 weeks apart.

This would allow the stupid sheep to realise where they went wrong and also those that don't like the result of the first round to get out of bed and actually vote in the second.

I think you need to accept that not everyone that disagrees with you is an idiot and that asking the same question repeatedly till you get the answer you want is is the sort of behaviour most reasonable people criticse governments for attempting.

No not new, but the fact May just finds a way around the fixed term parliament act rather than honouring the intention behind, which was to stop this kind of manipulation, shows what regard she has for democracy and law. The Gina Miller case was the same, whatever you think of that case, it was right in law that Parliament should have a democratic vote, and May tried to fight that!

I know I will totally discredit my argument in the eyes of many here (we can't all agree!), but David Cameron was one of the most democratic Prime Ministers we've had in years. He was totally humiliated and defeated in the 2013 Syria vote, but he held his hands up, said "the country has spoken" and accepted the result against his own will. He gave the country the Brexit referendum against his own will.

Regardless of Brexit another five years of Tory misrule will be a disaster for the average and below average income earner in this country. The NHS, the education system, the care system, the police force, the prison service, social services, the care system, in fact every facet of public services are on their knees. I can't believe that so many people out there can't see what is happening or are too greedy to care. Unfortunately the Tories will use Brexit to distract the voters from what is happening, the timing may also influence the local elections that are happening across the country. I also doubt that Corbyn has the guts to stand up and say that Labour will stand up for a soft Brexit and if it looks like we cannot get that he will stage another referendum with the choice being a hard Brexit or no Brexit, which is what would have been the honest question in the first place.
by the way now is a good time to write to your local prospective county councillor and ask them what they think about the ever increasing number of closures of green lanes.
