Just bought my first van, originally looked at second hand, but was surprised how expensive they were, considering the miles on them and how they may have been used/abused, so then looked at the VW Transporter and again surprised how expensive they were new, so settled on a 66 reg Peugeot Boxer, new Euro 6 engine and cost me about half the price of a Transporter, but is it half the van? Time will tell, its a lot bigger than the Transporter, am planning to convert it into a motor home.
The answer will be dictated by the budget really. I have a SWB ducato with the larger engine. Fiat havent shared the engines on the newer models across the other platforms (ie renault & citroen) as they wanted to keep it for only fiat. It goes like fuck, the standard version is plenty high enough and due to the shape, they are nice and wide, easy to put three enduro bikes in plus kit Mine has cruise control, mega stereo, comfortable etc, decent mpg.

Built to order. Took four months to deliver,but it's different. 2013 SWB - medium roof for full standing room. Take two Africa Twins easy with loads of move around space ! Factory fitted side and rear windows,rear power point,two battery's,rear parking,full Thatcham alarm,glazed bulkhead with grill as well as rear window grills,privacy glass all round and it's a 140bhp Ltd model fully loaded with Cruise/air con/blue tooth/velour etc. I've been meaning to sell it since last January but I still haven't got the new one ordered yet. Don't know what it's worth ? private vehicle no VAT. Available any time really, probably hang on now though till Jan for a new 2017 reg.

Thanks all, some great suggestions and points to consider, a wealth of bike related van knowledge!
I'm tempted by Hoggy's tranny, my mate opposite has very similar spec and loves it.
Been looking at what's out there and really like the look of the new Citroen Dispatch/Peugeot Expert. We ran the old Scudo and an Expert for 150k miles each with only minor issues. The latest versions have some nice size options and absolutely stacks of kit, didn't think I would be able to get adaptive cruise on a van! Going to test drive some over the next couple of weeks and try for size.
