Mine has the tarnished spokes but then again so did the tri-colour demo bike? but i can't help but being sick of the word RUST on this thread. OK...i know its not good but can anyone actually show me ONE picture of a actual RUSTY crf1000l spoke?

One old one new, the old one cost me £7300 in 1993. The new one £10,450 2016. Now what's the best value. My both bikes are the same colour (thumbs) as pic

I haven't heard that one yet:

I am very sad to say that my love affair with the Honda CRF1000 is all but over. This bike rides like a dream on road and off, has an amazing engine and suspension and over all is very comfortable. But you cannot build an Adventure/ dual sport bike with foot pegs mounts that are such a disaster and expect to have success. I am completely unconfident to ride it off road after the peg mount snapped of on a very low speed low intensity impact. The replacement part is very complicated and expensive and impossible to make a field repair too. I must say that Carl's Cycle Sales and Honda North America did take care of the issue and cudos to them. I hope that Honda redesigns this part and makes it available to the owners. Until then be very careful when riding the twisties as the pegs will drag easily and the dirt as the mounts are not durable

Have you got a search set up on your computer that highlights every problem Worldwide with certain bikes? You're a bit obsessed with AT issues and it's looking decidedly unhealthy.

Bloody hell Al, my 60000 mile BMW 1150 GSA, which is 11 years old looks far better than your AT

....and people say BMW quality is crap

And a AT from 11 years ago will look just as good as your GSA.

Comparing old against new is unfair IMO as amongst other things the processes available now to plate / paint have been consigned to the ecological bin. Ever so ironic as it means that more materials will be needed to build the replacement bike as the all the new ones corrode away much quicker, negating the environmental savings :dry:

I'm only really interested in problems with bikes I own or I'm considering buying but I wouldn't buy any new Honda even if they made what looked to be the perfect bike and because I was convinced they were a bad company to deal with about 35 years ago.

Hi ,I started this post ,with a true view of ownership of a Africa twin ,from day one. Having spent my hard earned money .. Not just a view from tyre kickers, or a 1 hour test ride.. I still like the bike warts and All.only time will tell.. (thumbs)

Foot note I'm aware other motorcycle hacks read this forum . So hopefully any problems will filter back eventually to the manufacturer . :whistle:

.. engine paint loss(as in my 800gs) would be more serious..engine failure.or wiring loom failure ect would be a worry.. so far all just small exterior stuff easy fixed..al does love his bike...he is patient and waiting for the new improved wheels ....my personality couldnt handle it...i would have to have it all sorted immediately..maybe consider one up the line a bit
