So folks...never bought a new bike and yes I know they are far from perfect.
But i'm fed up of 2nd hand bikes and having to put up with all the little issues that I get from time to time. My 1150RT is 14 years old now and in OK condition but so many things are going wrong and I just don't know what's next.
I am seriously thinking of investing in a new bike but no idea what?
So here are my requirements and kets see what sensible idea you folks come up with.
Max £10,000 cash..might be able to get a deal.
Must be good for 2 up.
Must have a good fairing.
Must be comfy and upright as I have a bad back.
Must be ok for fat blokes.!!!!
Don't need offroad at all as I have my 950 for that.
Luggage would be nice.
Must be good for long distances and commuting.
That's about it for now..ideas please?
Mike

Off the top of my head I would have a look at new style Honda Crossrunner or Triumph Tiger Sport for new @ around 10k. Whoops increased your budget already!

Try the DCT Africa Twin, ive bought a new (manual) one for the same reason as your title and I'm loving it. Plus you can still use it off road for the same stuff as the KTM! Although the DCT version is a bit more expensive (aprox £11250 ish) so if you sell the 990 as well you will have the best of both (thumbs)

Just buy a brand new BMW R1200RT WC Tourer.... on a PCP, for £200 per month and change every 2 yearsMike101 wrote:So folks...never bought a new bike and yes I know they are far from perfect.

Put in as little cash as you need too and then pay each month and when the ashtray's full, swap it for another
Simples, BMW will keep fixing it under warranty and you won't need to get your hands dirty

Re: Fed up of 2nd hand bikes
Thats where we arrived at with cars (we share one, my wife and I - but have a bike each)
Leasing, for £250 a month, no tax, low insurance, no MOT, full breakdown cover full warranty - and the pleasure of having a brand spanking motor on the driveway every three years.
Versus, always paying off £200 a month car loans for £6k bangers that needed replacing every three years, and sucked the life out of us in repair. maintenance and MOT bills...
We own Sarahs bike outright - and mine's on HP - but when its paid off - it'll become a deposit for a new bike.
PCP / Leasing all comes down to wether actually owning a depreciating asset is important to you or not.
But you know what they say about millionaires -they only buy assets that go up in value, and only ever lease assets that depreciate...
But - yep - I feel your pain, we've had bikes that have bled us dry too...

Not a chance I'm afraid...I do about 20k on my bikes each year so PCP is not for me.
Plus don't do finance.

Re: Fed up of 2nd hand bikes
My k 1600 on a pcp do 20000 miles a year on it.You agree total
Miles with the dealer as part of the pcp got 50000 agreed in mine
My engine went and it was a huge bill sorted by Bm
If you want a new bike look at a pcp
You could put 3000 down pay 110 a month for 2 years still have 4500
Left and have money in the bike for your next pcp
You could ride for nothing except servicing for 5 years by my
Calculations
Pcp are coming in big style into the bike world service packs
Coming in as well so you don't even have to worry about that.
Bm do pcp on used bikes and are starting to do 2 years warranty on
Used bikes.
If you have the cash something to think about
And you already have another bike so mileage wouldn't be an issue

NOT AS FAST ON A BIKE AS I THINK I AM
Re: Fed up of 2nd hand bikes
I wouldn't even consider PCP, I bang and scratch my vehicles too much and I wouldn't want to be thinking about the extra bill at the end with each new scratch.
Same with brand new bikes, you take quite a hit off the show room floor but at least it's yours and not as much of a problem if you keep bikes for a lot of years.
I'd be looking at a very low mileage "opps I bought the wrong one" bike from a dealer, basically a new bike but usually a bit cheaper, having said that I've heard of some very good deals being had when £££ notes are waved under a dealers nose for an old stock bike.
