How do you deal with gusting cross wind?

If you know how to do something, share it with other members. i.e How to fix a puncture...How to ship a bike to Alaska etc. The post with the most 'Thank You' votes in a month wins an ABR Hoodie.

Yesterday on an exposed dual carriage way and winds reported up to 50mph I did what I always do

Crapped myself, left the top box at home, hid behind the screen, and was glad when I got where I was going.
Stay loose and be aware of which direction the wind is from.

All of the above I would add if you can, try to plan your route accordingly. Where I live isnt particularly high but its one of the highest points overlooking London, even a calm day can have moments. When the winds way up I take the longer more sheltered route & stay clear of the downs.

I hate wind more than iced roads :(

I had it coming over the hills near Buxton the other week on a BMW K1600.All you can do is slow down, try to relax :woohoo: and as suggested look for obvious places where gusts will hit you.Tucking in behind a large wagon will help if theres any about as it will assist sheilding you from frontal assaults.

I was down to 25-30mph all the way across not a nice experience in the least.

Had it bad last yr from oslo to copanhagen, prob 200 miles of it,i found if you slide your bum slightly of the seat on the windward side i keeps the bike a little uprite seemed to help in the gusts some of which were prob 50mph,the oresund bridge was the worst being blown across two lanes.

If its really bad give up book into nearest hotel eat good food
Drink beer wait for weather to pass
Tried to ride from Moffat to yorkshire the other day and had to
Give up 60 mph winds gust upto 75 driving heavy rain flooding trees
Down roads closed lorries on their side just not worth it
NOT AS FAST ON A BIKE AS I THINK I AM

Saw this S10 back in 2013 on Ruta 40. Fortunately for him the wind was fairly constant.
