Rab Ascent 500 Sleeping Bag

Treated myself to one of these with my bike fund christmas money.

After much research, deliberating and trying different ones out for size I settled on this one that I might get more use out of than a hotter one 700 ot 900 fill

Packsize is great, weight is low and I'll use a variety of liners depending on temperature, have a silk one and a Sea to Summit Thermo fleece. (I have a few cotton liners but they're horrible to sleep in)

Anyone had one on here, any feedback welcome, what temperatures have you used it down to etc?

Used in the cold Galloway Forrest trip a few years ago, frost on the tent , minus something

packs small, weights little too, I have silk liner , but not used that.

Combines well with an exped mat, great combination...

Yes I remember that year as I was there too next to your tent. Stuart measured it at -8 around tea time and it just got colder as the night went on. Was it Jim's kettle that froze or your's can't remember? I was in a bag rated to +6 and had to put socks on cause my feet were cold. The year before I didn't have a sleeping bag as I'd left it at home

I've got 2 rab ascent 500 sleeping bags (well one for me and one for my son) i bought mine years ago and was really pleased with it, so when the young un wanted a sleeping bag i had no hesitation in going out and getting him the exact same one, i was that impressed with mine especially for motorbike travel, as it packs down small and light but its warm enough to take most anywhere a man is likely to go on a motorbike, if its a hot night i just leave it unzipped and its still nice and comfy enough, i find it perfect, and it washes and dries well, i think I've had mine about 7 years and I've used it a lot and it is as good today as when i bought it, theres not many things you buy like this what you can say that about

ps i use mine with a thermarest sleeping mat,

Using mine with a Northface self inflating mat and a Thermarest Ultralite Cot

I now have a very comfortable and versatile sleep system that does not take up much space or weight.

The mat and Rab pack to the same size as my old trusty Coleman Fusion X Varion 2-3 season bag

ahh well thats good to know paul because i, just about to buy a thermarest ultralite cot, then like you said its just about the ultimate system for a good comfortable night kip, iv always loved camping and nowadays there is no need to be uncomfortable whatsoever

I've been using a campbed for a few years now and it's transformed my night's sleep far more comfortable than just a mat. Used a cheap steel 5kg £10 hi gear jobbie from Go Outdoors. Upgraded and treated myself to the Thermarest Ultralite Cot Long and have been very pleased.

The bed is 1.9kg, the mat is just over 700g and the RAB just over 1kg and all fit into the panniers or the soft panniers
