Promised myself I was not going to post on this thread again, but when I saw this I was a little disappointed

I remember the last Big ADVrider meet I attended in Wales. I was on my old XR400 with home made screen and wearing old army gear.

There were some lads on new KTM rally prepared bikes wearing all the rally clothing with their blood group stickers on their helmets.

I soon found out why they had these stickers on their helmets when they started crashing as soon as we left the car park :unsure:

Can you tell what year that was, I helped Robbie & Emma in Rhayader and Timpo in North Wales lead runs on most of the ADVrider meets. I simply don’t remember it like you. I remember them and hoped they were very friendly meets for all level of riders on ANY bike wearing ANY thing you liked

It saddens me you saw it this way, Lots of us spent our time making those weekends work. I think I remember you coming down with Basil and Mick ? or Chris UK ?

Its not always how good the bike is ! a lot is down to the rider and only a fool will forget this (thumbs)

Sorry on my ride outs its not what you ride or how good a rider you think you are that matters but I get disappointed if you don’t have great fun (thumbs)

You seem to have read something that I have not written .

I state that some riders nowadays choose to have the latest bike's and gear and other's run older style bikes and old riding gear.

The bike or gear the rider uses does not reflect how they ride. ( unlike some other's have assumed on here )

I have nothing but praise for the rides Timpo and co, organized and I know from the ride outs I used to plan in the Yorkshire Dales …a lot of time, preplanning and effort goes into them.

I only stopped going because for me the events were getting to big and I prefer riding in small numbers.

Truth is any off road bike will go anywhere with the right tyres, enough torque, some momentum, and a rider with big enough balls.

It was on knobblies, a trials tyre would have been easier. It's got enough torque and I had some momentum but I'm hung like a baby carrot and a couple of petit pois so I guess I was just lucky

The only way to maintain momentum up something like that is to have skill/experience/balance.
Being brave and keeping the throttle open is definitely not enough.

I agree, the big balls need to belong to a good rider. My point is this whole KTM will make it, old trail bike won't, is balls.

By virtue of it's record the Suzuki DR200 is probably the best Do IT All that has ever been made.
It's now been made from 1986 to 2016 so 30 years of continuous production with only minor changes, like the addition of electric start.
It's been made in various types for Recreation, Semi Commercial & Full commercial Farm use.

These are in the main Tough go anywhere machines.
Capable of 100mpg, 65mph & 250 mile range.

I have omitted the DR650 which has almost the same record with a lot more power & consequentially a bit more weight! (thumbs) (thumbs)

Selling a bike to 3rd World countries for 30 years does not make it a better bike than one that's only been in production for a year. If you're going to take that approach then the best bike in the World is a Honda C90 and anything else is just an exercise in futility and greed.

Dont think The USA or New Zealand are third world, & the tyres & ground clearance would hamper a C90 on a lot of terrain which would need manhandling to traverse.
C90...........been round the world but not realy a green laner. (thumbs)
