What I can't understand is that the KLX250 (as a bike available new currently) seems to be on everyone's short list.
The KLX 450 is 3x the bike the 250 is. It's easier to ride because you don't need to be in exactly the right gear like you need to be on the terribly underpowered 250, it's smooth torque is your friend on muddy trails, you don't need to ride it with the throttle on the stop between trails and its stock suspension has more travel and is of better quality.
The oil and filter doesn't need changing for at the least 2000 miles with trail use, which is a year on UK trails, so I'd be changing the oil on the 250 after a year anyway.
As a trail bike is far better than the 250.
I know I am pissing into the wind on this one!

Looks very good, albeit £2K more than the KLX250. I would say it's a full blown enduro bike, not a trail bike. Any better than WR450 or CRF450X???

If there were loads of trails to play on, I would happily have one!

Just one other point - I haven't found a UK trail yet that the KLX doesn't have enough power for. It is a bit weak on the road though.

They're Industrial Dunlop Purofort. Thermally insulated with Steel toecap & insole.
Use'em in the depth of winter. Keep your feet warm & dry.
No ankle protection but ok for bimbling on a lightweight.

Haha Bob, let me tell you I got bollocked off Mike (54) for sitting down too much....which I accept I did.
But yesterday (Tuesday) I did a 42 mile mostly off road cycle ride...it was a walk in the park compared to North Wales Green Laning with Mike, Mark and Wave.....great fun though.
Always a great pace.

went on big trf ride in thetford yesterday, most bikes there were enduro bikes ktm . a few big bike and some odds and sods all went round ok . it seems to me that most riders need the bling factor to look good. if you have the money great, just ride anything its about be out there having a good time that simple..my wr 250x went round fine and then rode home , it about being out not what you ride.

You and your mate Picos should come out with us in North Wales, Johnny. You can come on your DR's and we will come on our "whizz bang" KTMs etc. You'll quickly find out just how "piss easy" some of the trails are.

There were some lads on new KTM rally prepared bikes wearing all the rally clothing with their blood group stickers on their helmets.

I soon found out why they had these stickers on their helmets when they started crashing as soon as we left the car park :unsure:

Its not always how good the bike is ! a lot is down to the rider and only a fool will forget this (thumbs)

A couple of years back I did a TRF newbies ride. There were several new riders there, mostly on proper enduro machines. There was also a lady on a CRF250L and me on a KLX250. It was quite interesting how the ex-fireblade/R1 riders on their competition machines spent some time on the deck when the going got bouldery. CRF-lady and myself bobled neatly over all the rocks. Looks like many years of MTB experience counts for rather more than warp-speed plastic rocket experience.

Of course two years later, whilst I'm still bobling gently over rocks, they might have progressed to double back flips and stuff
