There's an assumption on this forum that everyone owns an off road bike.

Of course many of the serious Enduro machines will do a better job but for pure trail riding these 2 are hard to beat.

This is like a play ground argument about who's dad's the hardest :laugh: :laugh:

This was posted on another forum and thought it made sense

"We blithely ignore the fact that we all want something different from our trail bikes.Thank goodness manufacturers produce different bikes, otherwise most of us would be stuck on something that was designed to suit the "other bloke"

B*ll*cks.....was just fancying buying a DR650 for some winter fun and this thread has just pushed up the price and convinced people to hang on to the one they have! Are you sure they are not crap and not worth having ? :whistle: I wasn't too impressed by my DRZ400, I didn't like the ergonomics though I suppose they are a bit of a jack of all trades, quite a list of mods required to prevent serious issues.

However I think Picos has nailed it with the DR350s for the 4t class

I've not got a lot of experience `off road`, but I had a DR350 ... and it was only when it was gone that I realized what a great all-rounder it is. with a remarkable tractable engine.
the engine and gears are perfect for me `off road` (tho the chasis was crap).. and performed remarkably well on tarmac, considering its a 350.(brakes and suspension crap tho, as u know)

I am still trying to convince myself that the previous answer of ... TTR600 ... is the correct one though ... especially as it handles far superior `off road` due to the quality suspension (ohlins and paoili)[belgarda model] and lower weight (c of g) .. and far superior brakes too (brembo).

I have now sold my trailer, and van has gone to `scrap eep in da sky` so its all one now for getting there and trailing it too (was before, anyway).
on tarmac it is very good for a compromise bike. and great fun... just (a bit) low speed compared to a fireblade.
of road it is very stable and sure. so the extra weight compared to the dr350 does not come into play.

I've had a load of expensive but amateur-local-crap work done on it.. and to be fair, it goes a lot better now .. tho still noisy and rumbly.
the kick start .. I have got used to ... and it does start better now after the work doen.

I can't say it is no-nonsense tho ... as I previously had a lorra lorra grief starting her. and waiting months for a new piston .. and waiting months for some crap suspension work to be done (leaking forks, wrongly positioned rear shock tubes, resulting )

I am hoping it is all going to turn out just fine :blink: (thumbs)
