Ah! Further investigation shows I would have to pay UK VAT (20%) but I could reclaim the VAT paid in the country I bought it in (14.75% in Spain for example) - still a very significant saving for some minor paper-work effort.
Works out at £9170 (plus approx £130 of admin fees) - 13% saving?
Plus having it delivered from Spain or where ever.
Then there would be the UK first registration fee.
The saving gets smaller and smaller.
Of course, it could get damaged in transit........send it back etc.

Always assuming that the dealer in Spain would'nt be keen on doing a nice quick and easy deal to a cash buyer. They would jump at it and most likely give you a cracking discount or help with shipping etc...
I really don't think it would be too hard to get one here with all legalities done for around £9,000 all in.
So, if a private buyer could do it for that are Honda UK ripping the UK off? I think we can all see the answer to that one.
How much does a Yamaha Tracer cost in the UK now? £8,000 ish, is it a poorly built piece of crap? No. Does it cost £2,500 more to build and ship to the Uk than the new AT, highly unlikely.
So, I WAS VERY INTERESTED, But starting at £10,500 is a piss take. I for one will wait for those desperate to have the latest and greatest bike have their time in the sun and wait for the deals to come out when the initial rush tails off, always assuming that it turns out to ride as well as it promised.
So, you've ordered one from a Spanish dealer who wanted to give you a nice juicy discount and help with the shipping cost?

Not yet, however I did get to have a good look at them at the NEC today.
Now lets be clear here, I really want to like this bike and have had my fingers crossed for two years that it will be the replacement for my KTM.
However, seeing it in the flesh for the first time, taking off my super keen goggles and looking past the shiny paintwork I'm feeling quite dissappointed in what I saw.
Firstly I must have looked at a different bike to what some others have talked about, I thought the build quality was cheap, plasticy, and flimsy. The welding on the frame looked like it had been done by a 5 year old, the finish on the engine looked like it would fall of within 5 minutes of seeing a British winter, the nice graphics on the fairing and tail section arn't lacquered over and look like they'll peel the first time you show them a jet wash. Those side mounted radiators look very vulnerable to damage in any kind of tip over. The indicator mounts look like a good bump would be enough to snap them. The seat cover on the red one was already looking very worn.
I really can't see the finish coping with even a small amount of offroad use let alone pulling it out of a bush upside down.
This bike is obviously a big deal for Honda and they have thrown the full weight of the marketing dept behind it and are expecting to shift big numbers of it, which they probably will.
But not to me, very disspointed, don't see anything about it to justify the price tag at all.
