A small trip on small bikes

As a little practice run for my missus in preparation for a small but trip over to the continent in august we decided to pack up the vanvan and the herald and head of to Scarborough for the weekend. A trip of around 100 miles in persistent drizzle.

I must say that with the difference in our weights the bikes came out very event matched and there was only a couple of mph in it when pinned. The roads were very slippery and we had to stop and help one guy who had lost it while exiting a roundabout on his Harley. The herald on tkc80 was a bit fidgety, more so than when I run them on the sertao of maybe it was just the lightness of the bike allowing more movement.

We packed as though going for 2 weeks with the large tent, large trangia, 2 helinox chairs and a small table as week as the usual other stuff and when spread between the 2 bikes it was surprisingly easy to fit into a small jofoma bag, a giant loop coyote and a 35L ortilieb dry bag. No tank bags were needed so we could take more it required. First impressions of the jofoma bag were very good. Everything stayed dry, it was very stable and very easy to attach.

Stopping at a campsite just north of Scarborough called the Barn. Picked this site at random as it had a cafe on site. The cafe is more like a restaurant to be fair and I have just had one of the best Italian meals I have had outside of Italy. Real ale on draft and a good selection of fridge beers etc. The cost of the site is £15 a night and the "cafe" is quite reasonably priced as well. I can recommend this site every if the amenities are minimal in terms of the amount available.

Not so keen on drizzle, as a couple you must save space on us solo types !

that herld looks just like a triumph.had a van van ,fine bikes...a friend and i have drukenly decided to go from glasgow to italy he on his zoomer and me on a cheep 50 cc next summer,what fun!
