F800GS fuel pump replacement

I'm looking at replacing the fuel pump on my 800GS as I believe it could be causing a problem I have with the bike cutting out when it gets hot. It's only done it a couple of times, namely when the air temp gauge is reading in the 30's.

After speaking to someone who had the same problem in Africa, who replaced it with a Toyota Corolla pump and then having a look around the internet it would appear that some, but by no means all 800's suffer with this problem.

Has anyone else had this problem and changed their fuel pump and if so what did you replace it with?

I've seen too about the Toyota pump.
Also you can now buy the fuel filter separate from motorworks which could be the problem

From what I've read the problem is the pump not the controller.

It's a 2009 bike with 23,000 miles on it.

Last time it happened to me was as I went across the New Forest on the A31 - hardly The Atacama desert :S

A replacement for the BMW fuel pump is the exact same as Bosch part number 0580 454 094 7ZB.

Good to know for when out on far of travels and needs are GREAT.

If anyone else knows of other items that can be interchanged with mainly car parts would be a huge benefit and save many many pennies to boot. B

The air temp had to be showing on the dash as 35 deg C or more and had to have around 6 or 7 litres of fuel left.
Then it would cut out, a lot!!

Fill the tank, and then no problem.

I replaced the fuel pump controller which wasn't cheap, but no joy.
Anyway, I fitted a secondhand pump and no probs since. Now at 52,000 miles. About 15,000 since changing pump.

I found it really hard to find anyone with a similar experience. The dealers had never heard of it.
The problem hasn't re-occurred so fingers crossed.

The bloke I spoke to who had the problem in Africa spoke to his local BMW dealer back in the UK who said a new OEM pump would be about £350 - a bush mechanic where he had broken down was aware of the problem and recommended a Toyota one for £35. Funny a mechanic in the middle of Africa was aware of the problem but BMW dealers aren't !!
