In France they're known as Mash Motors (why???) where you can get this rather nice 400cc model for €3999.

They've also got a range of accessories and custom parts including different size tanks, various seats and clip-ons and top yokes which might be interesting for people wanting to make their Herald their own. More HERE.

And they do this neat little 125cc scrambler, with high pipe, longer travel suspension and wide braced bars.

yeah Mick the only electronics are the CDI. Even got a carb. Essentially you start with a basic bike at £2700 and build to your spec. The one I have bought costs £3500 due to my choice of colour and other extras that are above the base model. My thinking is a Vanvan type for sharing but with a little more grunt. Sunday bike really with the old donkey (Sertao) taking the brunt of the workload. They are on Storforth lane near the landrover shop if you fancy a chat with them.

That Mash 400 really appeals, wonder how it compares to my Royal Enfield. May have to have a look at one if we get a dealer nearer

That's the question. When the prices start getting higher how do they compete? I love the look of the Mash 400cc but it's almost Enfield price and while they're not known for their ability to hang together they do have the history the Chinese lack.

Character is one thing the Chinese bikes are probably lacking compared to the Enfield but if the reliability is greater on the Chinese bikes I could see Enfield losing sales. This comes from someone who loves riding his Enfield , but would seriously consider a bike like the Mash

Not really looking for the Roadstar, great looking retro though it is, but the 400 Adventure version which uses the same kick/electric XBR-derived engine, but with everything else more modern. At that capacity that bike could be a contender.
Mash 400 Adventure just out in France - may be coming here.
The near identical WK 400 Trail (same bike, different UK importer/brand) here next month.according to this.
I don't think Herald and Mash are the same thing - but they may sell adapted bikes originally built by Shineray.

Short version on the Roadstar: great looking; very light, nice low seat and didn't feel small for me @ 6' 1".
But - maybe because it only has 100 miles on the clock, didn't feel like it could outrun an XR250 Tornado or CRF-L I used or owned. Front brake was weak but a braided hose in the works they say.
And at nearly £4k on the road it's just too much, even with 2 years warrantly.

Besides the 400 Advs, the bikes I'm more interested in are the SWM 440s (bottom pic). Now owned by Shineray but far from a bored out XBR/Mash/WK 400. It's a whole new DOHC, wet sump motor. Doesn't look like they're in production yet.

I take it you mean the xr400 engine?

If so it should be easy to get the power, yes?
