Swedish amusement ride!

Post by Purple Giraffe »

I've been invited to the opening of a new theme park attraction at Astrid Lindgrens Varld in Vimmerby, Sweden in June. So, along with my brother (we both work for Blackpool Pleasure Beach) we thought why not make it a bike trip.

So booked the ferry from Hull to Rotterdam and got a rough idea of the route planned.

Will spend a few days getting to Vimmerby, then a few days up round the lakes, a day at Liseberg Amusement park in Gotenborg. Then a couple of days getting back to Rotterdam. Planning on wild camping in Sweden and camp sites in Germany.

Upgraded some of my equipment from my last trip, got a Primus Gravity 2 multifuel stove and a smaller / lighter down filled sleeping bag.
First time out for my Vango Equinox 350 tent (had it for over a year now) and not giving up my airbed, just don't like the look of those mats!

This my first Euro-trip in 20 years and first one ever for my brother.

Any input welcome and appreciated.

I'm not sure how bad they are in Southern Sweden but the mozzies up the northern part of the country at that time of year are like blood sucking exocete missiles. Pack along some deet, just in case.

Looks like a great route.

No I'm not famous, I just get invited to loads of events within the theme park industry.

Next month Pleasure Beach opens it's new Nickelodeonland Park, so many park owners will attend from all over the world.

It just occurred to me that by traveling to these places by bike it is, in part, a business trip and tax deductible!

Planning on a trip to visit parks in Holland, Germany, Italy, Spain and France later this year or next.

I would just like to clarify that this is my first Euro trip on the bike! I'm not a hermit, I have left the country before!

Anyway, I have upgraded some equipment since the Scotland trip last year, though mine cost a little more than a multi-fuel stove!

This trip will be done on a 1200GSA rather than a 650 V-Strom :woohoo:

Weird world. I'm off to Blackpool in June, I should say I'd like to swap trips but I'm taking part in a charity endurance ride from Tower to Tower for Make A Wish so want to raise a bob or two.....
if that seems like a hint ....it was

Have you got set concrete plans, for camp-sites I have the "Archies Camping Guide" loaded as Points of interest in the Garmin,

Watch out for the Elk in Sweden, they're thicker than a thick animal on thick sedatives. And they're bigger than I thought too, see quite a few roadside glad none were on the road

Thanx for the info Snaphappy.

It is indeed a weird world, I'm off to Germany next month, though not a bike trip - wedding at Europa Park near Rust, although I've just seen it's only 60+ miles to Touratech, might need to have a drive out there!

As for camping the plan was to ride 'till we've had enough then find the nearest site using map or Tomtom.

Europa Park, send your suit in the post and ride there, you will wish you had when you see the scenery down that part of Germany
I'm much further north but for the Sweden trip you are passing past my door if its not the weekend of the 18th I may be in if you need a place to sleep
I'll PM you my location and number just in case

Not long to go now, wheels start turning on the 14th.

Hope the weather is a damn sight better then it is on the Northwest coast of England!

Now, where do I get that deet from!
