Yep. Have to put up with this bullshit day in day out.

Pointless meetings several times a week going over stuff everyone already knows. Meetings about meetings,

Fuckoff and stop wasting my time and let me get on with my work.

It's weird, I used to be an English teacher and yet I can't understand what half of you are saying, can anyone recommend me a course in business bullsh!t?

Now though I've given it all up to be my wife's full time carer. If I worked out the hours I spend either looking after her needs or being "on call" it comes to 140 hours per week. Having paid into the system since my first job aged 14 I struggle with the fact I'm not doing so now and would love to find some form of employment where I could use the talents I was born with. But hey at least I get to receive carers allowance, which works out at £ 0.42 per hour.

My point is grab every opportunity while you can, if you can. Life's short enough as it is and it can all change in an instant.

As for my RTW dreams, we both know her condition will never improve and is going to shorten her life. The only opportunity I'll have will come at a point that frankly I'd rather not think about. But hey, I get to have this time with the person I love and I wouldn't change that for anything (most days).

Mate good on you for being a carer, had to do it with the old man it's not easy and may I suggest you are using your talent to a very good end. If the karma system was still in play you get some off me

Cheers Spud ;)

Try doing it from this side is what I'm thinking. I'm expected to submit the forms electronically then HR send them to the employee the same way and ask them to fill in the reply section for every part I've completed. I then get it back and have to reply to their replies :pinch:

I know my MD is supposed to do a similar appraisal of everyone at my (fairly senior) level and while he's been in his job 6 years none of us has seen him do one but we get emails telling us our KPI scores will be down if we don't do them for staff at levels below us. That'd be a worry if I'd ever seen my KPI breakdown rather than the standard 95% figure on my payslip meaning no salary adjustment.

Today's bullshit, summed up to a big T

Only there to keep the workers and middle managers, down...............hence the 95% scores, so you don't get any more than the standard overall company pay increment of maybe 1 or 2%

No incentive, no matter how hard you work

HR only there to protect the company, as had been said

never understood annual pay rise's why people deem it their right's to have one, I always asked have you improved your productivity by the same rate as your pay rise ? the pay rise only forces cost's to go up to cover it, so annually all cost's go up so people ask for a pay rise so they can keep to the same standard of living

No incentive, the incentive is you are paid to do a job.

cheers Spud ;)

Wow, you've really touched a wordy nerve for us all here! Here is my steaming pile of opinion:

I spent quite a lot of yesterday in a meeting with our seniors managers. We were discussing the teams and people in them. I was suprised to hear comments around people who didn't want promotion as being negative. I did a fair ammount 'challenging' these opinions (even though I was the most junior person there).

In telecoms (or IT) there is a feeling that everyone should be desparately ambitious. Whilst its true for lots of us (me included) it doesn't mean that people who aren't are negative, if you are happy in your job and it makes your life comfortable then why should you want the extra shit that comes with working up the ladder.

However if you aren't happy in your work and you don't want promotion then its important to spend time thinking about what you can achieve that will make you comfortable and happy with work and life.

I always have a rule where I don't allow myself to complain about things I'm not actively trying to change. There is a whole world of options out there and once I have decided what is important in my life and work I can gain a lot of hope and satisfaction knowing that what I'm doing is part of a plan for what I want.

I hope it doesn't sound like I am preaching. Your boss sounds like a dick and there is no excuse for that.
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

There is a lot to be said about people in the middle of the company that want to just get on and do their job. They add something that is very hard to buy. Stability! So because you don't want to move on, you shouldn't be frowned upon but supported.

.......
People who are happy with their job, are very good at it and are happy where they are should be left alone. Thye end up being top performers IME. I have seen far too many people who are like that moved on "for personal development" by managers who seem to think moving about is the key to success.

I have been in that position as well, a meeting with a very senior manager who asked if I had any ambition at all. I said I had plenty of ambition, just as much as he had and that the only thing he could get out the job more than me was a bigger pension.

IME many people think ambition only applies to promotion. They do not realise those with ambition to do the actual job as opposed to manage it are in fact the key workers.
