LED Lenser H7. Bright as hell when needed, but dimmable for inside tent to save battery. Zoomable beam also. Best head torch i've had.

Hi,

I have a number of different head torches, personal favourite is black diamond storm. It has all the functionality of petzl but also allows you to dim the light and is effing bright on full power. I was recommended it by one of the staff in snow and rock who had just bought one himself after seeing it had more functionality at less cost than a petzl.

I have had mine for a while and it top notch. To say it's bright is a understatement, and the dimmer works a treat there not cheap but you asked for a decent one
I will add a +1 to this,i use mine every day at work, charge it up for a camping trip.
dimmable so you don't blind anyone around the campfire. ;)
I was away for a week in September using it every night on the charge before I left.
top product.

Yup.. I have one.

Brilliant. Still on the original batteries I put in back in December 2011 and yes, I've used it quite a bit. Unbelievable.
Me too, bought mine in the summer, the level of brightness compared to my old one is unbelievable.
Another vote for the Tikka 2. I'm sure that there are other good ones out there, but I am sold on these. Mine has been used extensively in all conditions (-15 degrees, 5,000+ metres and lots of snow or wet) and continues to perform admirably. I'm on to my third set of batteries (yes they almost last forever :P ) and would happily replace this one with another if I manage to kill it. YMMV :)

The Alpkit Gamma is as good as the Tikka but half the price. It has a very good main light, the option for green and red lights, which is fantastic at night, and it has a red light at the back of the unit so people behind can follow you. It's a terrific piece of kit and if Alpkit were more known, they'd be bigger sellers than they are. They're better than other head torches at three times the price.

Alpkit also have great customer service so if anything breaks, contact them and they'll help you out.

I have no affiliation with them by the way, just a very happy customer.

I was in the same boat and I have just ordered an LED lenser H7 after a weekend camping with a mix of people using the lenser and tikka. Brightness difference isn't even comparable.

Amazon have the h7 on sale at £31!

They are just going through a rebranding and remodeling exercise and the new h7 is £90 so grab em while they are cheap. Only difference between New and old is that the new one is available in 3 colors and the battery is at the front. The old mounts the battery at the back and is black, same lamp on both though.
